Richlands prevails in Bristol, defeats Virginia High in overtime

Exhale. That’s what a collective fanbase did after the excitement of a thrilling overtime game had faded from Gene Malcolm Stadium. Staring down the uprights, Levi “Fle” Forrest had missed his three previous attempts, including an attempt at a game winner just moments earlier. This one was true, however, and it lifted Richlands to a 17-14 victory over Southwest District foe Virginia on senior night. Bearcats host Blue Tornado in key SWD clash

Friday night at Gene Malcolm Stadium will be a night of emotion and reflection for the Virginia High seniors and their families as the Bearcats welcome the Richlands Blue Tornado on senior night. It will also be a night that features a matchup between two teams that many people consider to be darkhorses as we approach the Region 2D playoffs next week. Lebanon travels to Richlands for SWD clash

The Lebanon Pioneers (1-7) travel to Ernie Hicks Stadium in Richlands to face the Blue Tornado (4-4). Kickoff tonight is scheduled for 7 p.m.. No strangers to one another, the two faced for the first time in 1962 with Richlands leading the series 23-7. Last year’s meeting ended in a 52-7 win for the Blue Tornado. Graham blanks Richlands, 45-0

Graham and Richlands have played football since 1926. Thursday night’s 45-0 win over the Blues was the largest win ever in the series for the G-Men. The previous margin? Graham 30, Richlands 0 way back on Oct. 7, 1932. Let that sink in. Graham could do no wrong. Richlands could do no right. Richlands’ linebacker Sean Toney took a break from football in his junior season. That means he wasn’t on the field last season in Marion when Austin Wyatt fired a 52-yard touchdown pass to Easton Medley in the final minutes to give the Scarlet Hurricane a 22-18 victory over the Blue Tornado. Blues, G-Men set for matchup of Southwest District powers

The mood tonight inside Mitchell Stadium will be a mixed bag. On one hand, you have the marquee game of Tazewell County, as well as the Southwest District. On, the other, you have a team in Blue who will have heavy hearts following the death of one of their classmates earlier this week. Richlands surges in second half, blows past Marion

For the first twenty-four minutes on Friday night, this game could have been considered a touch boring. But the fans in blue had more to cheer about in the second half, as Richlands (4-3) pulled away to take a 30-6 win over Marion (3-4). The Blues, wearing their blue helmets for the first time this season on Homecoming night, held a slim 7-0 lead at the half and used big plays in the third quarter to put the game away.… Read the rest
