Wolfpack Dispatch Hurricanes 49-7

photo* SWVA Photography The goal at the start of the season for many of the Ridgeview Wolfpack football players was to win a state championship.  The Wolfpack are one win closer after Friday night’s opening round playoff victory over the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes.  The Wolfpack dominated and were never challenged in the 49-7 triumph.  All 56 of the game’s total points were accumulated in the first 24 minutes of action. Richlands extends The Streak, prepares for Battle of the Storms

(photo credit: Elizabeth Bennett) If it could have gone right for Richlands against Tazewell, it did. The Blues cashed in on five Bulldog turnovers in its way to a 41-0 rivalry win. It’s the 17th straight win for Richlands in what is dubbed the Backyard Brawl for the James C. Ramey Cup. It’s also the 4th straight shutout win for Richlands in the series. Marion, John Battle set to renew series

The John Battle Trojans (1-2) will visit the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes(0-3) for a non-district match up. Bearcats grind out important district win over Marion

Thursday night’s matchup between Southwest District foes Virginia High and Marion can be described in one word…..physical. The new-look offense of Virginia High had four different players combine for 54 carries, 305 yards and two touchdowns to pave the way for a 27-12 victory over Marion. The victory locks up a playoff spot for the fourth consecutive year for the Bearcats. Virginia High ran primarily out of a two back set and were led on the night by speedy freshman Stevie Thomas (180 yards and a touchdown) and senior strongman Aaron Rose (118 yards and a touchdown).… Read the rest

Virginia High, Marion battle for playoff positioning

On Thursday night, the Virginia High Bearcats will make the trip north on I-81 for an important Southwest District game against the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes. Each team enters the contest at 4-4 with Virginia High coming off a much needed 41-0 win at Lebanon, while Marion is coming off of a 34-20 victory over Tazewell. Richlands surges in second half, blows past Marion

For the first twenty-four minutes on Friday night, this game could have been considered a touch boring. But the fans in blue had more to cheer about in the second half, as Richlands (4-3) pulled away to take a 30-6 win over Marion (3-4). Blues, Hurricane set for Battle of the Storms

It hasn’t been easy for the Marion Scarlett Hurricane against the Richlands Blue Tornado. In a series that dates back to 1930, Richlands holds a decisive edge in the series. How decisive? Richlands is 41-17-1 all time against its Smyth County neighbors. That’s good for a .703 winning percentage.
