With the John Battle Trojans on the outside looking in, a big win for them at Bullitt Park against the Union Bears could catapult them in to the picture. Hurricane Stadium will be the setting this Friday for a contest between two teams that are both hungry for a win.

This Washington County rivalry has been historically dominated by the Trojans who lead the overall series 24-5-0. Last year the Cavs returned two kickoffs for touchdown in an effort to upset the Trojans, but the end result was no different. In a game filled with turnovers, penalties, and some anxiety at the end, the John Battle Trojans held off the Virginia High Bearcats Friday night to win against their arch rival for the first time in five years. The win also gave new head coach Bradley Ricker his first victory at the helm of John Battle.

For years, one of the most storied rivalries in Bristol has been Virginia High versus John Battle. The first meeting was in 1963 and they have played each other 57 times with Virginia High dominating the series. John Battle has not won in the series since 2013. This year the Bearcats will come to Trojan Field with both teams coming off huge losses. The Abingdon Falcons reminded everyone Friday night why they are the defending Mountain 7 District champions.
In the first game of the season the Falcons welcomed the John Battle Trojans to Falcon Stadium. Abingdon picked up right where they left off last year, picking up 12 first downs and playing solid defense on there way to a 45 to 14 victory.
The Falcons’ senior halfback, Martin Lucas, showed balance and strength on his way to 130 total yards and four touchdowns.… Read the rest
