J.I. Burton cruised to an easy 39-6 victory last week over the Rye Cove Eagles and were able to get some of their starters rested in the second half. The Thomas Walker Pioneers were on the wrong side of a lopsided game last week as they were defeated by Twin Springs, 35-13.
Two weeks ago this looked to be a winner take all in the Cumberland which was log jammed up until recently.… 
Coach Keith Warners Titans have kept their playoff hopes alive. Needing to win their final two games against Thomas Walker and Rye Cove, the Titans took their first step this past Friday night as they went on the road and upended the highly favored Pioneers, 35-13.
Coach Nick Johnsons Pioneers have now lost two in a row after a 6-1 start to their season. Coming off of a 37-12 loss to Eastside last week, Thomas Walker was still in position to be hosting a playoff game but those hopes are now dwindling away after a loss to Twin Springs and a matchup with 7-2 J.I.… 
Twin Springs (4-4, 0-3) and Thomas Walker (6-2, 2-1) have quietly developed a nice little rivalry on the gridiron over the years. The teams have beaten on each other for quite some time and for the last 15 meetings, Thomas Walker has won eight of those contests while Twin Springs has been the victor in seven of the meetings. The Pioneers upset the Titans in 2015 in Ewing 26-21 but then Twin Springs followed with a 62-31 thrashing of the Pioneers in 2016.… 
With three weeks to go in the regular season the Cumberland race is just heating up. Thomas Walker (6-1, 2-0) currently sits in first place with Burton (5-2, 2-0), Castlewood (5-2, 2-1) and Eastside (3-4, 2-1) all breathing down their throats. Eastside has played one of the toughest schedules in 1D but have won three out of their last four to put themselves in the thick of things in the Cumberland.… 
Kenny Ball found the endzone four times in last Fridays road win win over Twin Valley. Ball ran for three scores and found himself on the receiving end of a touchdown reception from Zack Kidwell.
The Pioneers now move to 6-1 on the year and head in to a big Cumberland showdown on the road at Eastside. Thomas Walker was led on the defensive side of the ball by Jaron Warf and Ethan Hounshell as each tallied double digit tackles.… 
The season in Ewing for the Thomas Walker Pioneers has started on a high note. The Pioneers are 5-1 for the first time since 1996. Third year head coach Nick Johnson has the squad from Virginia’s most western high school clicking as they travel back to his Buchanan County roots on Friday.
Thomas Walker is set to make the trek to Pilgrim’s Knob this Friday to take on the Twin Valley Panthers.…
