Graham wallops Radford, advances to state championship

With Radford having an 11-game winning streak and Graham having a 13-game winning streak, it appeared this match up would be a barn burner. That was not the case, as the G-Men (13-1) throttled the Bobcats (12-2) 57-13 in the state semifinals. Graham forced five first-half turnovers and quarterback Cameron Allen accounted for six first-half scores to jump out to 48-0 halftime lead.   There was commotion on social media about the VHSL forcing games to be moved to alternate locations due to nasty weather and field conditions. … Read the rest

Radford dethrones Appomattox, advances to semifinals

It was a busy Saturday in the New River Valley. Two high school regional championships were played along with Virginia Tech and Virginia battling for the Commonwealth Cup. Top-seeded Radford played host to the third-seeded Appomattox Raiders for the Region 2C Championship. As we approach the final two weeks of high school football, one thing is certain.  Appomattox will not contend for the Class 2A state title. After trailing 17-7 early in the game, Radford (12-1) battled back and defeated the three-time defending state champions 28-25.… Read the rest

Bobcats look to end Appomattox’s domination of Class 2

Not many people expected Radford and Appomattox to still be playing this late in the post season. Radford finished 2017 with a 2-8 record and did not make it into the post season. For Appomattox, even though they won their third-straight state championship last year, many expected them to have a rebuilding season as they lost most of their talented senior athletes. Hawks soar into battle with rabid Bobcats

Radford looks to continue their Cinderella story as the top-seeded Bobcats get to host their second playoff game this week against the Gretna Hawks in a rematch from week four. Radford (10-1) is on a nine-game winning streak since falling to Galax in week two. Since that game, the Bobcats have dominated most of their opponents, only allowing seven points per game while scoring nearly 30 points per game. Radford blanked Fort Chiswell 22-0 last Thursday for their first playoff win since 2015.… Read the rest

Radford, Fort Chiswell set for Thursday night football

When you talk about teams having turn-around seasons, Radford is at the top of the list. After finishing 2-8 in 2017 and not making it to the playoffs, the Bobcats finish this regular season 9-1 with the top seed in Region 2C. Last week gave them their seventh straight win as they defeated Glenvar, 17-7 and returned home as champions of the Three Rivers District.
