Tiller Named Head Coach of Wolfpack

Todd Tiller was named the new head football coach at Ridgeview High School on April 20th.  Tiller becomes the second head coach in Wolfpack history, succeeding Rick Mullins at the helm of the school in Dickenson County. Mullins retired following a successful tenure, leading the Pack to four playoff campaigns in five seasons. Family Affair: Polier and Satterfield garner All State wrestling honors

Cousins Mason Polier and Johnny Satterfield wrapped up a stellar season on the wrestling mat for Union High School. Each brought home a third place finish in the VHSL class 2A state wrestling tournament this past February, Polier in the 220 pound class and Satterfield in the 160 pound class. Polier is wrapping up an outstanding career that includes a state championship while Satterfield is only beginning and has high hopes for himself.… Read the rest

THE END OF AN ERA: Richlands’ Greg Mance to coach at Loris (SC)

    Over the course of his 23-year tenure as the head coach at Richlands, Greg Mance never failed to leave his team with a simple message before they took the field on a Friday night. “What is the last thing I tell you every Friday night?” The teenage clad of blue and white immediately shouted back. “HAVE FUN!” Mance echoed his team’s exclamation. “To have fun.” It goes without saying that over the past 23 football seasons in Richlands, the entire town, school, team and coaching staff has had fun.… Read the rest

Union’s Mason Polier signs on dotted line to continue football career at UVA Wise

Fans who spent their Friday nights at Bullitt Park will now be able to make the 17 mile trek from Big Stone Gap to Carl Smith Stadium in Wise to watch Mason Polier on Saturday afternoons for the UVA Wise Cavaliers. The 6’2 220 pound Polier, who starred on both sides of the ball for Union as a running back and linebacker, signed with Wise on February 5th at Union High School.… Read the rest

Twin Springs’ Reed inks with UVA Wise to continue his baseball career

Twin Springs High School baseball standout Justin Reed has signed on the dotted line to continue both his academic and baseball careers at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. Reed will begin his journey in the Fall of 2020 and dig his cleats in to the new dirt at Burchell Stallard Field for long time Wise skipper Hank Banner. Banner, a resident of Castlewood, is entering his 24th season at the helm of the club and is excited to welcome in Reed, who lives about 20 minutes down the road from his future coach.… Read the rest

Patrick Henry blanks Burton to claim Region 1D title, sets up date with Galax in state semifinals

The Patrick Henry Rebels laid claim to the programs first ever regional football title this past Saturday with a 24-0 victory over the J.I. Burton Raiders at Emory & Henry’s Fred Selfe Stadium. The three headed attack of Dakota Rector, Cody Smith and Zach Brown led the way on offense for the Rebels as they accumulated all of their points in the first half. Zach Brown, who has been hobbled by injuries to both ankles led Patrick Henry in rushing.… Read the rest

Graham bottles up Union in regional semifinals

  The 37-35 win over Graham back in September at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield against Graham was one that will be talked about forever in the towns of Big Stone Gap and Appalachia. Last Fridays 48-7 loss to the G-Men was one that folks will want to forget. However, this loss will hang around until next fall when the 2020 season kicks off and the Bears can once against start their quest for a state championship.… Read the rest

Warriors continue incredible season, shock Wolfpack

Perhaps no one outside of the picturesque towns of Pound and Wise could have predicted the outcome of Friday night’s contest between the Ridgeview Wolfpack and the Wise Central Warriors.  In week three of the regular season, the Wolfpack had dispatched the Warriors with ease 41-20.  Trenton Adkins ran through the Central defense and made it look simple on his way to a six touchdown performance on that September evening.  The folks who made the trip from Wise County believed, and more importantly, coach Luke Owens and his young Warriors team believed and the Warriors shocked the Wolfpack 14-7 on a dense, foggy evening on the Ridge Friday night.… Read the rest

Galax, Auburn set to lock horns in Region 1C semi’s

Galax and Auburn are set to square off for the second time this season and the 27th time overall. This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools in the playoffs. Galax has won 5 out of the last 7 meetings between the two and have won three in a row, including a 55-14 win over the Eagles back on October 25th. Auburns last win over the Maroon Tide was in September of 2008.… Read the rest

Series all time:  Ridgeview leads 4-2 (Last meeting Ridgeview defeated Wise Central 41-20 on September 13, 2019 in Norton, Va.)
