SUCCESS IN SALEM: Graham takes home the gold, whacks Goochland 31-9

Saturday was the type of day for the Graham G-Men that a storybook could not depict any better. Bed sheets hung from bridges in Bluefield, Virginia during the early morning hours on Saturday with messages of well wishes spray-painted on their fabric extending towards the G-Men football team. The late-Glynn Carlock, Graham’s head coach who won 244 games and two state titles during a 32-year tenure from 1973-2004, would’ve turned 81 years old.… Read the rest

1958 Graham G-Men remain the lone undefeated team in school history

  In 1958, the Graham G-Men finished their only unbeaten and untied season with a 10-0 record. Hermitage High of Henrico County edged out the G-Men for the state championship that season. The VHSL did not have official state championship playoffs until 1970. They were done in brackets just as they are now. From 1970 until 1985, there were only three division: A, AA, and AAA. STATE WEEK IN SALEM: Graham seeks gold after 17 year absence

The last time the Graham G-Men made a run to the state championship, a 5-foot-10 wide receiver named Ahmad Bradshaw left each opponent Graham faced scratching their heads. Unfortunately for Bradshaw the G-Men, they came up short of the state crown as they fell to Harrisonburg in 2001. It has been 17 years since Graham has played for a state title. Graham wallops Radford, advances to state championship

With Radford having an 11-game winning streak and Graham having a 13-game winning streak, it appeared this match up would be a barn burner. That was not the case, as the G-Men (13-1) throttled the Bobcats (12-2) 57-13 in the state semifinals. Graham forced five first-half turnovers and quarterback Cameron Allen accounted for six first-half scores to jump out to 48-0 halftime lead.   There was commotion on social media about the VHSL forcing games to be moved to alternate locations due to nasty weather and field conditions. … Read the rest

Allen dazzles, downs Richlands for Region 2D Championship

It was the Cam Allen show, part II, on Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Stadium. The senior quarterback accounted for over 250 yards and five touchdowns in helping the Graham G-Men (12-1) push past Richlands (8-5) 38-10. It only took two plays for Allen to show why he will ultimately be named the region’s player of the year. He hit Devin Lester on a 37-yard bomb to put Graham ahead 7-0.
