“We win Game 10” is a common phrase that’s heard in Nickelsville or Clinchport. A rivalry that goes back to 1969 takes center stage this Friday in Valley Creek at Titan Stadium. This will be the 52nd meeting between the two schools while they have only met once in the playoffs. In late October or early November, there’s a lot of pride on the line when Rye Cove and Twin Springs lock horns on the gridiron.… 
J.I. Burton wasted no time in putting away Rye Cove Friday night. A 27 point outburst in the first quarter led to a 39-0 lead at halftime for the Raiders who eventually came away with the 39-6 victory on the road over the Eagles.
Burton piled up 336 yards of offense in the victory. 333 of those yards came via rush as Esau Teasley led the way for the Raiders as he scored on runs of 46 and 55 yards in the opening ten minutes of the game to finish his night with 101 yards on the ground.… 
Both Rye Cove (4-4, 0-3) and J.I. Burton (6-2, 3-0) come in to this Fridays contest at the Eagles Nest riding winning streaks. Rye Cove has won two in a row while averaging 40 points per over the two wins. Burton is perhaps one of the hottest teams in Southwest Virginia as they have reeled off six consecutive victories, including a 28-7 victory over a pesky Castlewood squad last Friday night inside Lawson Fitchko Stadium.… 
Rye Cove improved to 4-4 overall on the year behind 4 total touchdowns from Mason Hardin and a stellar defensive effort that limited the Twin Valley offense to 50 total yards.
Coming off of a stellar performance last week against Unaka, Hardin made sure to give an encore to the home standing crowd. Hardin threw a touchdown pass to tight end Andrew Jessee and ran for another three touchdowns on the ground.… 
Recent History suggests that this Fridays showdown between Twin Valley and Rye Cove could be a shootout. The two teams have lit up the scoreboard against each other over the last seven meetings. Twin Valley has won four out of those meetings with Rye Cove winning three. The Eagles won in 2012, 2013 and in 2018 by a combined 8 points in those three victories.
Rye Cove is 3-4 overall with the Panthers sitting at 2-5 overall.…

Matthew Gibson has witnessed a lot of heartbreak in his four seasons as a Rye Cove Eagle.
0-10 as a freshman. 0-10 as a sophomore. 1-9 as a junior.
Wins for Gibson and the Eagles were few and far between. However, in Cheyenne Osborne’s return to the helm of Clinchport’s team witnessed a much-improved edition of the Eagles in 2018.
Behind senior leaders such as Gibson, the Eagles posted a 4-6 record and ended some long streaks in the process.…
