Richlands runs through Tazewell in Backyard Brawl

It was a “Sweet Sixteen” party for the Richlands Blue Tornado as they cruised past county rival Tazewell for the 16th straight time Friday night in the annual Backyard Brawl. Richlands (3-3) used a pounding run game on their way to a third consecutive shutout against Tazewell (2-4) on a Friday night Pink Out game. Panthers defeat East Ridge on homecoming

The next several weeks are very crucial for the Twin Valley Panthers in their chase for a spot in the Class 1, Region D playoffs.  Coming into this past Friday’s interstate matchup with the East Ridge Warriors, the Panthers were on the outside looking in.  48 minutes of football later, the Panthers achieved a critical win on homecoming night over there 2A opponents by a final score of 48-28. Falcons top Bearcats in defensive showdown, 14-6

In one of the lowest scoring games in this longstanding rivalry, it’s only fitting that it was a defensive play that sealed the win for the Falcons. Facing a 14-0 deficit late in the game, the Virginia High Bearcats’ offense was finally able to find the end zone on a touchdown strike from quarterback Jamie Lathrop to wide receiver Taurean Bizzell. James River spoils homecoming in Giles

The Spartan faithful were in shock after witnessing Giles (3-4, 1-2) surrender a 28-0 lead against James River (5-1, 1-1). The Knights scored 36 unanswered points and completely shut the single-wing offense down in the second half, leaving Steven C. Ragsdale with a 36-28 victory to spoil homecoming in Pearisburg. Jenkins helps Bears blow by Lee High

It was a sluggish start for the Union Bears in their first home game after a three game road trip. The visiting Lee High Generals dominated the time of possession and had double the offensive snaps in the opening stanza. But senior running back Avery Jenkins changed all of that in an instant. The track star scored three second quarter touchdowns that gave the Bears a big lead going into the break and allowed Union to cruise to a 42-7 conference victory.… Read the rest

  There are many things that are intimidating for a typical high school freshman. Remembering your locker combination. Navigating your way through the hallways to class. Algebra 1 homework. Starting as a varsity running back against Hurley at “The Cliff”. Well maybe that last one isn’t typical, but neither is Tazewell’s Mike Jones. Homecoming week is a special time. From the start of spirit week, to the parade through town, to the 30 minute halftime where a queen is crowned. there is not a shortage of important things going on. For junior linebacker Nick Kastner and the Graham G-Men, the most important thing was securing a homecoming win vs. Princeton in front of their home crowd at Mitchell Stadium.
