Narrows travels to Covington for district opener

Narrows (4-1) starts defending their 2017 Pioneer District title this week at Covington (3-2). The two teams played twice last season. Narrows won the regular season contest 48-18 and one more defeated the Cougars 21-0 in the second round of the playoffs. Covington seeks revenge, led by one of the top running backs in the Pioneer district. In last week’s 56-14 victory over Nelson County, Covington had 454 total yards of offense.… Read the rest

Lebanon, Graham set for SWD bash

Graham (4-1) hosts Lebanon (0-5) as the Pioneers make the trip to Bluefield for a Southwest District match-up. The G-Men lead the series 2-0 with Friday night’s 7:00 pm kickoff being only the third game in their short history. Players to watch for Graham include:  Senior QB #10 Cameron Allen has committed to Purdue University. Richlands, Tazewell set for 94th Backyard Brawl

The stage is set for Tazewell County’s biggest rivalry. Greg Mance. J’Me Harris. Race Moir. Chancellor Harris. Kelly green. Navy blue. Ernie Hicks Stadium is where two teams are set to take blows for the James C. Ramey Trophy in the CoalfieldSports.com Game of the Week. The Tazewell Bulldogs (2-3) will make the short trek down 460 West to battle it out with their archrival Richlands Blue Tornado (2-3). Giles, James River set for Three Rivers District showdown

There is not much history between Giles and James River, as the two have played each other five times since 1980 with Giles leading the series 4-1. With the Knights now in the Three Rivers District, they know that beating Giles would be a great accomplishment, especially after falling to the Spartans 54-7 last season. Tigers, Raiders set for battle on homecoming night in Honaker

After starting the season 3-0, the Honaker Tigers have hit a two-game losing skid. The Tigers are indeed into the meat of their schedule and it will not get ant easier when the 3-2 J.I. Burton Raiders travel to Fuller Field for battle. Honaker is coming off a 41-17 defeat at the hands of the George Wythe Maroons last week at Pendleton Field in Wytheville. Grundy travels to Hurley in search of BDD Title

The first domino on the goal sheet for the Grundy Golden Wave could fall at the Cliff on Friday when it travels to Hurley to take on the Rebels. With a win over their archrival, Grundy will claim the Black Diamond District Championship. With the recent string of success that the Wave has rattled off as of late, the odds are in Craig Plymal and Grundy’s favor.
