Twin Valley set for showdown at Thomas Walker

Last week, the Twin Valley Panthers (4-3) welcomed interstate foe East Ridge from Kentucky to do battle in Oakwood on homecoming. The Panthers were in dire needs of breaking a two game losing skid with hopes of sneaking into the top eight of the VHSL 1D playoff rankings. Blues, Hurricane set for Battle of the Storms

It hasn’t been easy for the Marion Scarlett Hurricane against the Richlands Blue Tornado. In a series that dates back to 1930, Richlands holds a decisive edge in the series. How decisive? Richlands is 41-17-1 all time against its Smyth County neighbors. That’s good for a .703 winning percentage. Giles turns attention to Carroll County

After giving up a 28-point lead and falling to James River last week, many wonder what the mindset is for the Spartan players and coaches. Giles dropped to 3-4 on the season and 1-2 in the Three Rivers District. Freeman and Green Wave ready for Mustangs

Last Friday was a huge night for the Green Wave. Not only did they defeat a tough Covington team with seconds remaining in their Pioneer District opener, they also broke a few records along the way. Quarterback Wyatt Freeman broke the single-game passing record, completing 17-of-26 passes for 308 yards. He also threw the game-winning touchdown with four seconds remaining in the game. Union brings home 2A golf state championship.

The wait is over. The Union Bears finally added their first state championship as the golf team won the 2018 2A championship on Tuesday. What began as a close tournament, ended in a blowout with the Bears’ combined score of 303 was 23 strokes better than that of second place Wilson Memorial. The Bears were led by Austin Schlobohm, who tied for the overall lead with a 73, but lost a one shot playoff to finish second individually.… Read the rest

Graham takes SWD win over Lebanon

Lebanon knew they’d have to be aggressive and take some chances if they were to compete with Graham. Friday night’s SWD clash started off with an onside kick as the Pioneers tried to steal a possession from the G-Men. Graham fielded it and brought it back to the the Pioneer 44 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Graham WR Devin Lester came in motion and took the hand-off. His carry brought the ball down to the six yard line before Lebanon S Cole Stoots made a touchdown saving tackle.… Read the rest
