Eagles to host Twin Valley in non district clash

Recent History suggests that this Fridays showdown between Twin Valley and Rye Cove could be a shootout. The two teams have lit up the scoreboard against each other over the last seven meetings. Twin Valley has won four out of those meetings with Rye Cove winning three. The Eagles won in 2012, 2013 and in 2018 by a combined 8 points in those three victories.   J.I. Burton has a new head coach but the results haven’t changed. Jacob Caudill has served on the Raiders coaching staff for the last seven years and was the defensive coordinator before taking over the head coaching position this summer. Caudill has his Raiders in position to claim another Cumberland crown if they can hold serve over the final three weeks of the season. Hubbard, Honaker face big test vs. Patrick Henry

Honaker (4-3) at Patrick Henry (7-0)  Doug Hubbard and his squad are riding high after a big 36-30 win last Friday in a two overtime game against Hurley. Grundy (4-3) at Chilhowie (6-1)  The first seven weeks of the season have provided two completely different results for the Grundy Golden Wave. After starting the season 4-0, Craig Plymal’s squad has dropped three in a row. The losing skid is the longest of Plymal’s tenure as the head coach of his alma mater. Rebels & Cavaliers to battle in Damascus

Hurley (4-3) at Holston (4-3) Two 4-3 football teams are set for a showdown in one of southwest Virginia’s marquee matchups for week nine.  The Hurley Rebels look to get back on track this week after a heartbreaking 36-30 loss in two overtimes last Friday at Honaker. Richlands blows Marion away, season showdown with Graham looms

  It was dubbed the Battle of the Storms, but it wasn’t much of a battle as Richlands cruises to a 38-0 victory over Marion. The Blues defense held Marion to just 65 yards of offense, forcing two fumbles and not allowing a Marion first down until well into the second half. Logan Steele rushed for 49 yards and 2 touchdowns.
