Ball, Pioneers roll by Twin Valley

Kenny Ball found the endzone four times in last Fridays road win win over Twin Valley. Ball ran for three scores and found himself on the receiving end of a touchdown reception from Zack Kidwell. The Pioneers now move to 6-1 on the year and head in to a big Cumberland showdown on the road at Eastside. Wolfpack take down Trojans on Battle Hill

Coming off of a tough defeat at the hands of the Union Bears a week prior, the Ridgeview Wolfpack were expected to rebound in a big way Friday night.  They did with a resounding 44-6 victory over John Battle. Hardin, Eagles outduel Rangers in shootout

102 points, 1,022 yards of total offense and 50 first downs later, Rye Cove was able to run away from the Unaka Rangers 60-42, in a game that had a little bit of everything. There were no punts and Rye Cove was able to win the turnover battle by forcing Unaka to commit two turnovers, both interceptions as Rye Cove did not commit a single turnover on the night. Spartans blank Titans

Eastside played possibly their best defensive game of the year last Friday night as they went on the road and shutout the Twin Springs Titans, 20-0. Three players totaled double digit tackles and the Spartans held the Titans to only 97 yards of offense. The Spartans done all of their damage in the first half as they led 20-0 at halftime. Bryson Sheppard scored a pair of short yardage touchdowns in the second quarter to put the game away for Eastside.… Read the rest

Gate City uses big first half to put away Generals

Gate City continued their offensive outburst against the Lee High Generals last Friday night at Legion Field in Gate City. After scoring 55 points against Marion a week before, the Blue Devils defeated the Generals 51-27, with 45 of those points coming in the first half. Michael Calhoun, D’Andre Mack, Luke Reed and Carson Jenkins all scored touchdowns in the first quarter as Gate City led 25-0 after the first period.… Read the rest

Bears upset by Warriors

  After their big win over Ridgeview, the Union Bears were blindsided by the Wise Central Warriors last Friday night on the road in Norton. In upset fashion, the Warriors ran past the Bears 21-13. “We didn’t play well, we shot ourselves in the foot.” Stated Union head coach Travis Turner. “Give them credit, they played extremely hard and we didn’t do a very good job coaching.” A lackluster start from the Bears suggested that an upset was looming.… Read the rest

Honaker, Hurley battle for the Black Diamond District lead

The favorite to win the Black Diamond District will most likely be the winner of this game.  A win tonight actually would give Honaker its 12th Black Diamond District title in school history and its first since 2015. However, if Hurley were able to knock the Tigers off tonight at Fuller Field, the Rebels would be in the driver’s seat for the rest of the season.  Hurley continued Austin Cooper’s impressive first year with a 47-0 shutout over Northwood last week at The Cliff.… Read the rest

Thomas Walker travels to Twin Valley, looking to add to playoff resume

The season in Ewing for the Thomas Walker Pioneers has started on a high note. The Pioneers are 5-1 for the first time since 1996. Third year head coach Nick Johnson has the squad from Virginia’s most western high school clicking as they travel back to his Buchanan County roots on Friday. Black Raiders, Golden Wave to battle in Grundy

J.I. Burton (4-2) at Grundy (4-2)  Two very familiar foes are set to do battle on Friday night at Nelson Memorial Stadium in Grundy.  The Raiders and the Golden Wave have met up three times in the past two seasons. Grundy took care of business in the first meeting of 2017 in a 34-7 victory. However, when the two met later that year in the playoffs, Jimbo Adams and the gang was able to snake out a 19-14 victory on the same field in which they were defeated less than a month prior.… Read the rest

Richlands extends The Streak, prepares for Battle of the Storms

(photo credit: Elizabeth Bennett) If it could have gone right for Richlands against Tazewell, it did. The Blues cashed in on five Bulldog turnovers in its way to a 41-0 rivalry win. It’s the 17th straight win for Richlands in what is dubbed the Backyard Brawl for the James C. Ramey Cup. It’s also the 4th straight shutout win for Richlands in the series. Senior QB Cade Simmons continued to show improvement, throwing for 130 yards on a 6-9 evening with 2 passing scores.… Read the rest
