Back in late September Union jumped out to a 21-0 lead at halftime and held on in the second half for a 28-14 win over Gate City and sent the Blue Devils to their fourth straight loss after opening up the season with a 34-29 victory over Richlands. Gate City played the game without playmakers Carson Jenkins and D’Andre Mack while Union had a healthy Zavier Lomax. Fast forward to November and Gate City has gained Jenkins and Mack while Union is without Lomax who was injured the following week against Paintsville.…

#6 Tazewell (7-3) vs. #3 Graham (8-2)
Tazewell/Graham, David vs. Goliath, is set for this Saturday at Mitchell Stadium.
It’s a tale of two different programs as these two county rivals are set to clash in the VHSL Region 2D playoffs. One team is coming off of a storied State Championship season and looks to repeat while the other playing in its first playoff game since 2014.…

#8 Honaker (5-5) vs. #1 Patrick Henry (10-0)
A first round matchup in Region 1D features a regular season rematch between two district champions.
The Black Diamond District champion Honaker Tigers are set to take on the Hogoheegee District Patrick Henry Rebels on the turf of Fred Selfe Stadium at NicewonderField on the campus of Emory and Henry College on Friday night.
Both teams come into this first round matchup after ending the regular season on two totally different notes.…

Two weeks ago Derrick Pattersons Holston Cavaliers invaded Carl McConnell stadium and shut out the Eastside Spartans in the second half en route to a 40-22 victory. Now this coming Friday, the Spartans are eager to return the favor to the Cavs in the opening round of the Region 1D playoffs. In what will be the fourth matchup between the two schools, Eastside is looking for their first victory over Holston since 2017, the first matchup between the two.… 
Coming off of a 28-7 victory over Castlewood on October 25th, J.I. Burton is not taking the Blue Devils lightly. Castlewood held a 7-6 lead at halftime of that contest before Mikey Culberton led the charge in the second half as the Raiders scored 22 unanswered points after halftime to grab the crucial Cumberland victory. This will only be the second time these two teams have met in the playoffs with the first matchup coming in 2006, a 35-0 win by J.I.… 
Chilhowie (8-2) is the #3 seed in the Region 1D playoffs while the Thomas Walker Pioneers (6-4) are the #6 seed. This will be the first ever meeting between the two school who are located 113 miles apart, just a little over two hours of a trip.
Thomas Walker started out as one of the hottest teams in southwest Virginia but as the temperatures have cooled off, so have the Pioneers.… 
Much was riding on Saturday’s Cumberland District clash with Eastside and Castlewood: a second place district finish and a home playoff opener. It was the Spartans of Eastside that came out on top in the back and forth battle by a final of 42-32.
The win gives the Spartans a home playoff game in the opening round of the Class 1, Region D playoffs. Eastside will host the Holston Cavaliers on Saturday, November 16 at 1:30 pm. …
