Warriors continue incredible season, shock Wolfpack

Perhaps no one outside of the picturesque towns of Pound and Wise could have predicted the outcome of Friday night’s contest between the Ridgeview Wolfpack and the Wise Central Warriors.  In week three of the regular season, the Wolfpack had dispatched the Warriors with ease 41-20.  Trenton Adkins ran through the Central defense and made it look simple on his way to a six touchdown performance on that September evening.  The folks who made the trip from Wise County believed, and more importantly, coach Luke Owens and his young Warriors team believed and the Warriors shocked the Wolfpack 14-7 on a dense, foggy evening on the Ridge Friday night.… Read the rest

Galax, Auburn set to lock horns in Region 1C semi’s

Galax and Auburn are set to square off for the second time this season and the 27th time overall. This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools in the playoffs. Galax has won 5 out of the last 7 meetings between the two and have won three in a row, including a 55-14 win over the Eagles back on October 25th. Auburns last win over the Maroon Tide was in September of 2008.… Read the rest

Wolfpack, Warriors set for playoff rematch

Ridgeview Wolfpack (9-2) VS.   Wise Central Warriors (9-2) Region 2D Semifinal When:  Friday, November 22 at 7:00 p.m. Where:  The Ridge, Rose Ridge, Va. Series all time:  Ridgeview leads 4-2 (Last meeting Ridgeview defeated Wise Central 41-20 on September 13, 2019 in Norton, Va.) J.I. Burton set to host Chilhowie in region 1D semi’s

The Raiders are set to welcome the Warriors in what will be the second playoff meeting between to the two squads. Chilhowie knocked off Burton back in the 2017 playoffs in Chilhowie by a score of 42-7 in the Region 1D championship game to advance to the state semi finals. Chilhowie is currently 7-0 in Region D play. These two teams have gotten to know each other fairly well as it will be the ninth meeting in the last seven years.… Read the rest

Wolfpack Dispatch Hurricanes 49-7

photo* SWVA Photography The goal at the start of the season for many of the Ridgeview Wolfpack football players was to win a state championship.  The Wolfpack are one win closer after Friday night’s opening round playoff victory over the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes.  The Wolfpack dominated and were never challenged in the 49-7 triumph.  All 56 of the game’s total points were accumulated in the first 24 minutes of action. Union set to welcome G-Men for regional semi’s

The two teams have grown to be pretty familiar with each other as they set to do battle in the playoffs for the fourth time in five years and for the fifth time overall. Back in mid September, Union traveled to Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield and stole one from the G-Men in the final seconds off of the right leg of Junior kicker Koby Crist. Union held a 27-10 lead in the third quarter of the game but allowed the G-Men to take a 35-34 lead in the final minute of the contest.… Read the rest

Holston runs by Eastside to earn first playoff win in ten years

After making first round exits in the playoffs in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2018, the Holston Cavaliers earned their first playoff victory since beating Bath County 30-7 in a 2013 playoff game in Damascus. Riding the arm and legs of quarterback Quaheim Brooks, Holston compiled nearly 400 yards of offense in the 29-15 victory over Eastside at Carl McConnell Stadium on Saturday afternoon. “One thing we can always say about Q is that all these kids look up to him and feed off of his energy.” Said Holston head coach Derrick Patterson.… Read the rest

Union survives first round scare from Gate City

  Coming in to Fridays Region 2D quarterfinal matchup against Gate City, Union was focused on stopping Gate City’s rushing attack of Michael Calhoun and Logan Tomlinson, who both rushed for over 100 yards against the Bears back in late September. Instead, Gate City used a spread offense look that almost propelled them to an upset victory over Union inside Bullitt Park. Union got 145 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns from Mason Polier in the fourth quarter and a successful PAT from Tadyn Roark with just over five minutes remaining that allowed Union to preserve a 20-19 victory.… Read the rest

Undefeated Narrows to host Grayson County

Photo Credit – Chris Lang The Narrows Green Wave have rolled through the 2019 regular season with ease. In his 17th year as the head coach of the Wave, Kelly Lowe has led his team to a 10-0 record. That marks the first undefeated season since 1979 for the team that calls Ragsdale Field home. But that’s not the only milestone that Narrows has reached this year. The Green Wave won the Pioneer District championship and clinched the #2 seed in the region 1C playoffs.… Read the rest

Galax set to host Eastern Montgomery in first round of Region 1C playoffs

The Galax Maroon Tide have been on fire since dropping a 42-28 decision to the Northside Vikings back in late September. Since the loss, they have averaged 53 points per contest while yielding the opposition to 28 points and also pitching two shutouts against Fort Chiswell and Grayson County. The Mustangs from Eastern Montgomery have limped in to the playoffs as they started their year 0-5 before earning their first win of the season against Bath County in mid October.… Read the rest
