Titans strike down Eagles in Scott County Super Bowl

In what was a back and forth contest in the first half, the mighty Titans defense pitched a shutout in the second half to claim a 34-24 victory over the county rivals. Burtons heads to Ewing looking to clinch Cumberland crown

J.I. Burton cruised to an easy 39-6 victory last week over the Rye Cove Eagles and were able to get some of their starters rested in the second half. The Thomas Walker Pioneers were on the wrong side of a lopsided game last week as they were defeated by Twin Springs, 35-13. Castlewood, Eastside set to collide in Coeburn

  Castlewood and Eastside have met eight times since the 2011 consolidations. The two rival schools have beaten each other four times in the eight game span. Castlewood won the inaugural matchup in 2011, 24-12 and then reeled off three in a row over the Spartans from 2014-2016. Eastside squeaked out a 29-28 victory over the Blue Devils in 2017, a win that clinched the outright regular season Cumberland district title.… Read the rest

Twin Springs, Rye Cove set for 51st annual Scott County Super Bowl

Union set to collide with John Battle in regular season finale

With one week remaining in the regular season the Region 2D playoff picture is pretty clear. With the John Battle Trojans on the outside looking in, a big win for them at Bullitt Park against the Union Bears could catapult them in to the picture. This will be the seventh meeting between the two schools as they met twice on the gridiron last fall, once in the regular season and then a week later in the opening round of the playoffs both of which were shutout victories for the Bears.… Read the rest

Titans topple Pioneers to keep playoff hopes alive

  Coach Keith Warners Titans have kept their playoff hopes alive. Needing to win their final two games against Thomas Walker and Rye Cove, the Titans took their first step this past Friday night as they went on the road and upended the highly favored Pioneers, 35-13. Coach Nick Johnsons Pioneers have now lost two in a row after a 6-1 start to their season. Central spoils senior night for Gate City

  Wise Central continued to stay on their recent tear Friday night as they piled up 410 yards on offense to upend the Blue Devils 35-21 in a playoff like atmosphere at Legion Field in Gate City. Gate City (4-6, 2-4) came in to Fridays contest with a three game winning streak while Central (7-2, 4-2) had recorded three straight wins themselves. Raiders rough up Eagles

J.I. Burton wasted no time in putting away Rye Cove Friday night. A 27 point outburst in the first quarter led to a 39-0 lead at halftime for the Raiders who eventually came away with the 39-6 victory on the road over the Eagles. Burton piled up 336 yards of offense in the victory. 333 of those yards came via rush as Esau Teasley led the way for the Raiders as he scored on runs of 46 and 55 yards in the opening ten minutes of the game to finish his night with 101 yards on the ground.… Read the rest

Union rides Polier to double overtime win over Abingdon

When Union and Abingdon met at Falcon Stadium Friday night, each team had a bad taste in their mouths as they were both coming off of losses that they soon wanted to forget. Union was upset by Central and Abingdon took a 41-0 shellacking at the hands of Ridgeview. However, at least a share of the Mountain 7 crown was still in reach for the winner of the contest. Behind another superb effort from Senior Mason Polier, the Union Bears laid claim as the victor in a 28-21 double overtime thriller on a frost covered field in Abingdon.… Read the rest

Union travels to Abingdon as they look to ground the Falcons

  The Union football team is coming off of a much needed bye week after suffering a 21-13 setback to the Wise Central Warriors on October 18th at Tommy McAmis Field in Norton. Abingdon suffered a double blow last week as they lost star Junior tailback Martin Lucas during the week to a season ending foot injury then suffered a 41-0 loss to the Ridgeview Wolfpack on Friday night in Dickenson County.… Read the rest
