Twin Springs (4-4, 0-3) and Thomas Walker (6-2, 2-1) have quietly developed a nice little rivalry on the gridiron over the years. The teams have beaten on each other for quite some time and for the last 15 meetings, Thomas Walker has won eight of those contests while Twin Springs has been the victor in seven of the meetings. Both Rye Cove (4-4, 0-3) and J.I. Burton (6-2, 3-0) come in to this Fridays contest at the Eagles Nest riding winning streaks. Rye Cove has won two in a row while averaging 40 points per over the two wins. Burton is perhaps one of the hottest teams in Southwest Virginia as they have reeled off six consecutive victories, including a 28-7 victory over a pesky Castlewood squad last Friday night inside Lawson Fitchko Stadium.… 
Coming in to Friday nights contest, much of the talk was about the matchup between the hard hitting linebacker Evan Bellamy from Eastside and the bruising running back from Thomas Walker, Kenny Ball. Both players put up great numbers as Ball rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown while Bellamy collected 11 tackles. However, Grayson Whited stole the show. Whited ran for 197 yards and 3 touchdowns to push his Spartans to their biggest win of the season, a 37-12 triumph over the visiting Pioneers.… 
J.I. Burton extended their winning streak to six games while taking over sole possession of first place in the Cumberland after their 28-7 victory over Castlewood Friday night. The loss snapped a four game winning streak for Castlewood and handed the Blue Devils their second Cumberland loss of the season.
The Raiders got all they wanted from Castlewood in the first half while only leading 6-0 in the second quarter. The Blue Devils finally found some traction in the running game and put together a scoring drive.… 
Rye Cove improved to 4-4 overall on the year behind 4 total touchdowns from Mason Hardin and a stellar defensive effort that limited the Twin Valley offense to 50 total yards.
Coming off of a stellar performance last week against Unaka, Hardin made sure to give an encore to the home standing crowd. Hardin threw a touchdown pass to tight end Andrew Jessee and ran for another three touchdowns on the ground.… 
Recent History suggests that this Fridays showdown between Twin Valley and Rye Cove could be a shootout. The two teams have lit up the scoreboard against each other over the last seven meetings. Twin Valley has won four out of those meetings with Rye Cove winning three. The Eagles won in 2012, 2013 and in 2018 by a combined 8 points in those three victories.
Rye Cove is 3-4 overall with the Panthers sitting at 2-5 overall.… 
With three weeks to go in the regular season the Cumberland race is just heating up. Thomas Walker (6-1, 2-0) currently sits in first place with Burton (5-2, 2-0), Castlewood (5-2, 2-1) and Eastside (3-4, 2-1) all breathing down their throats. Eastside has played one of the toughest schedules in 1D but have won three out of their last four to put themselves in the thick of things in the Cumberland.… 
J.I. Burton has a new head coach but the results haven’t changed. Jacob Caudill has served on the Raiders coaching staff for the last seven years and was the defensive coordinator before taking over the head coaching position this summer. Caudill has his Raiders in position to claim another Cumberland crown if they can hold serve over the final three weeks of the season. The Raiders are only focused on the daunting task of slowing down Castlewoods Jeremiah Allen.… 
Kenny Ball found the endzone four times in last Fridays road win win over Twin Valley. Ball ran for three scores and found himself on the receiving end of a touchdown reception from Zack Kidwell.
The Pioneers now move to 6-1 on the year and head in to a big Cumberland showdown on the road at Eastside. Thomas Walker was led on the defensive side of the ball by Jaron Warf and Ethan Hounshell as each tallied double digit tackles.… 
102 points, 1,022 yards of total offense and 50 first downs later, Rye Cove was able to run away from the Unaka Rangers 60-42, in a game that had a little bit of everything. There were no punts and Rye Cove was able to win the turnover battle by forcing Unaka to commit two turnovers, both interceptions as Rye Cove did not commit a single turnover on the night. Both teams played a fairly clean game as each team only had forty penalty yards a piece.…
