Gate City made a splash throughout Southwest Virginia in week 1 with a 34-29 victory over Richlands at Ernie Hicks Stadium. Since then the Blue Devils (1-3, 0-2) have cooled down a bit. Coach Jeremy Houseright’s team took Abingdon down to the wire in week 2 but since have suffered two lopsided defeats. A 42-12 decision to Sullivan South and a 42-7 loss on Rose Ridge to the Ridgeview Wolfpack.

As Koby Crist’s field goal attempt sailed through the uprights, a Bears roar was heard throughout Mitchell Stadium that sent the Union faithful and sidelines into a frenzy. They knew they had just done something special.
Union was viewed as heavy underdogs coming in to Friday nights matchup against defending VHSL Class 2 state champion Graham. But just as bears do, they fought and clawed their way to an impressive victory to remain unbeaten and send Graham to 2-2.…

Hurley (2-1) at River View, WV (1-3)
In a Battle of the Rebels a week ago, Hurley drew the short end of the stick. Mark Palmer won his first game against Hurley at the Cliff last Friday as Patrick Henry cruised to a 40-20 victory over Austin Cooper’s Hurley squad. The Buchanan County version of the Rebels outgained Patrick Henry in total offense 336-249. However, that was not enough to get into the win column.… 
Twin Valley (1-2) at Northwood (0-2)
The amount of Panthers will be plentiful on Friday when Twin Valley travels from Oakwood to Saltville to take on Northwood.
Twin Valley looks to obtain its second win of the season after a 54-8 loss to Honaker last Friday night in Buchanan County. The loss to the Tigers dropped Jeremy Ward’s squad to 0-2 in Black Diamond District play this season. Twin Valley could not get out of its own way in the loss as the Panthers turned the ball over six times.…
