Thursday night’s Hogoheegee District matchup features two teams who have had entirely different seasons.
The Northwood Panthers are set to pack things up after tonight in what has been a woeful first season for Tim Johnson in Saltville. The Panthers lone win came in a 18-0 shutout over Twin Valley back on September 20. Northwood (1-7) at Honaker (4-4)
Doug Hubbard and the Honaker Tigers looks to bounce back on Senior Night at Fuller Field against the Northwood Panthers on Friday.
The Tigers made the trip to Glade Spring a week ago to do battle with Region 1D’s best in the Patrick Henry Rebels. Mark Palmer’s squad pummeled Honaker by a score of 49-21. Trevor Dye led the Honaker rushing attack with 70 yards. Isaac Perkins accounted for two touchdowns against the Rebels—one through the air and one on the ground.… Read the rest
Twin Valley (1-2) at Northwood (0-2)
The amount of Panthers will be plentiful on Friday when Twin Valley travels from Oakwood to Saltville to take on Northwood.
Twin Valley looks to obtain its second win of the season after a 54-8 loss to Honaker last Friday night in Buchanan County. The loss to the Tigers dropped Jeremy Ward’s squad to 0-2 in Black Diamond District play this season. After 19 games, the Chris Duble era at Northwood is over.
The announcement was made on Monday that the 28-year-old Duble had resigned as the head coach of the Northwood Panthers.
In a statement posted on social media, Duble acknowledged that he has been battling depression since September 2017.
“I need to take some time to get better and put time into prioritizing my family, before I can ever coach again,” Duble said.… Read the rest

The football field in the small Buchanan County community of Oakwood that hosts Twin Valley High School games is sometimes referred to as the “House that Roger Rife built.” The legendary coach of the Garden Green Dragons nearly won a state title in 1986 behind his stout defense.
Those Garden Green Dragons eventually consolidated with fellow Buchanan County compatriot Whitewood in 2001 to form Twin Valley High School. Even though Garden and coach Rife were known for their defense, Twin Valley’s offense led by Brandon Lester that was the star attraction at the show Thursday night.… Read the rest

After starting out 2-0, the Twin Valley Panthers dropped their first contest a week ago against the Honaker Tigers. In a battle between cats, the Tigers proved to be superior as Honaker tailback Trevor Dye’s four touchdown dashes led the Tigers to a 47-8 victory over Twin Valley.
For Twin Valley, their lone touchdown of the evening came from a familiar face. Panthers running back Brandon Lester found the end zone and converted the two-point conversion to put Twin Valley on the board in the fourth quarter.… Read the rest

The Hogo used to run straight through Wytheville. However, with George Wythe’s move to the Mountain Empire District, it’s opened the door for new blood at the top.
