Mount View’s Larry Thompson resigns; will coach at Wyoming East

A year after its first playoff berth in 12 years, the Mount View Golden Knights are in search of a new football coach. In an announcement via social media on Thursday, Larry Thompson announced he was resigning as the head coach at Mount View, a post he held for five seasons. SUCCESS IN SALEM: Graham takes home the gold, whacks Goochland 31-9

Saturday was the type of day for the Graham G-Men that a storybook could not depict any better. Bed sheets hung from bridges in Bluefield, Virginia during the early morning hours on Saturday with messages of well wishes spray-painted on their fabric extending towards the G-Men football team. The late-Glynn Carlock, Graham’s head coach who won 244 games and two state titles during a 32-year tenure from 1973-2004, would’ve turned 81 years old.… Read the rest

VHSL CLASS 1 TITLE: Riverheads rolls to three-peat, trounces Chilhowie 35-7

The mantra for the Chilhowie Warriors this season was “Unfinished Business.” On the opposing sideline, the Riverhead Gladiators countered that statement to model their 2018 season after. “We are not into hash tags and all that,” said Riverheads head coach Robert Casto.  “My kids always said #TakingCareofBusiness.” In a dominating performance, Riverheads cruised past Chilhowie for the second straight season in the VHSL Class 1 state championship by a score of 35-7.… Read the rest

STATE WEEK IN SALEM: Graham seeks gold after 17 year absence

The last time the Graham G-Men made a run to the state championship, a 5-foot-10 wide receiver named Ahmad Bradshaw left each opponent Graham faced scratching their heads. Unfortunately for Bradshaw the G-Men, they came up short of the state crown as they fell to Harrisonburg in 2001. It has been 17 years since Graham has played for a state title. STATE TITLE WEEK IN SALEM: Chilhowie searches for second state title

As the Chilhowie Warriors take the field Saturday at Salem Stadium, it will mark the second time in 363 days that the Warriors have hit the turf in the Roanoke Valley in search of a state championship. 2018’s VHSL Class 1 football state championship features a rematch from a year ago between Chilhowie and the Riverheads Gladiators.
