Rebels & Cavaliers to battle in Damascus

Hurley (4-3) at Holston (4-3) Two 4-3 football teams are set for a showdown in one of southwest Virginia’s marquee matchups for week nine.  The Hurley Rebels look to get back on track this week after a heartbreaking 36-30 loss in two overtimes last Friday at Honaker. Holston to visit John Battle in a Washington County Showdown

The John Battle Trojans (1-1) will host the Holston Cavaliers (2-0 ) on Battle Hill this week in a non district matchup. This Washington County rivalry has been historically dominated by the Trojans who lead the overall series 24-5-0. Last year the Cavs returned two kickoffs for touchdown in an effort to upset the Trojans, but the end result was no different. Holston’s Guerrero and McPeek take POTW honors for Week 10

There was a lot on the line October 26th when the Holston Cavaliers hosted the defending Cumberland District champion Eastside Spartans. For the Spartans, it was a chance to bring their record to 4-4, after starting the season with three straight losses. For the Cavaliers, it was an opportunity to secure their first winning season and playoff appearance since 2013. Raiders, Cavaliers set for playoff duel

Region D, 1A Holston Cavaliers (6-4, 1-2 Hogoheegee, 6th seed) at John I. Burton Raiders (8-2, 5-0 Cumberland, 3rd seed)   The Burton Raiders and the Holston Cavaliers clash in the first round of the 1A Region D playoffs this Saturday. The home standing Raiders, the third seed, look to keep their momentum going in the playoff opener after winning eight straight games after starting the season 0-2. Narrows, Morgan runs wild in victory over Holston

Narrows (4-1) made an impressive run last season after their only regular season loss. Many wondered if they would be able to do the same after suffering their first loss two weeks ago. Narrows running back Matthew Morgan ended whatever doubt the Green Wave faithful had, as he rushed for 195 yards with three touchdowns. Narrows celebrated their homecoming night with a 34-14 victory over a much improved Holston squad. Narrows looks to bounce back against Holston

In their 2017 season, the Green Wave won six straight games after falling to county rival Giles. The run was good enough to clinch the number one seed in region 1C. This season they plan on doing the same after falling to Giles in a hard fought battle in week four. Narrows will host the Cavaliers of Holston on homecoming.   Narrows (3-1) is expected to win their remaining games, but Holston (4-1) plans to avenge the 56-0 loss they suffered to the Green Wave last season in Damascus.… Read the rest
