2019 could come to a close for both of these Buchanan County foes on Friday. However, one would love to cap the season off with a win over a Black Diamond District rival.
Both squads are currently riding losing streaks into Friday’s showdown in Oakwood.

Twin Valley (2-6) at Castlewood (5-3)
Twin Valley’s blunders continued last week when the Panthers travelled to Rye Cove. Jeremy Ward’s squad returned from Rye Cove on the wrong end of a 38-8 decision last Friday night. In its third consecutive loss, the Panthers were only able to amass 50 yards of total offense and a touchdown from Larry Justice.
A win this Friday night on the road in Russell County will not be an easier to come by. … Read the rest
Coming in to Friday nights contest, much of the talk was about the matchup between the hard hitting linebacker Evan Bellamy from Eastside and the bruising running back from Thomas Walker, Kenny Ball. Both players put up great numbers as Ball rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown while Bellamy collected 11 tackles. However, Grayson Whited stole the show. Whited ran for 197 yards and 3 touchdowns to push his Spartans to their biggest win of the season, a 37-12 triumph over the visiting Pioneers.… Read the rest
Rye Cove improved to 4-4 overall on the year behind 4 total touchdowns from Mason Hardin and a stellar defensive effort that limited the Twin Valley offense to 50 total yards.
Coming off of a stellar performance last week against Unaka, Hardin made sure to give an encore to the home standing crowd. Hardin threw a touchdown pass to tight end Andrew Jessee and ran for another three touchdowns on the ground.… Read the rest
Recent History suggests that this Fridays showdown between Twin Valley and Rye Cove could be a shootout. The two teams have lit up the scoreboard against each other over the last seven meetings. Twin Valley has won four out of those meetings with Rye Cove winning three. The Eagles won in 2012, 2013 and in 2018 by a combined 8 points in those three victories.

Kenny Ball found the endzone four times in last Fridays road win win over Twin Valley. Ball ran for three scores and found himself on the receiving end of a touchdown reception from Zack Kidwell.
The Pioneers now move to 6-1 on the year and head in to a big Cumberland showdown on the road at Eastside. Thomas Walker was led on the defensive side of the ball by Jaron Warf and Ethan Hounshell as each tallied double digit tackles.… Read the rest
The season in Ewing for the Thomas Walker Pioneers has started on a high note. The Pioneers are 5-1 for the first time since 1996. Third year head coach Nick Johnson has the squad from Virginia’s most western high school clicking as they travel back to his Buchanan County roots on Friday.

Jeremy Ward and his Twin Valley Panthers have a long road trip in front of them in hopes of getting back into the win column. The purple and black will make a three-hour and four-minute trip to New Castle for battle with the Craig County Rockets on Friday.

The amount of Panthers will be plentiful on Friday when Twin Valley travels from Oakwood to Saltville to take on Northwood.
Twin Valley looks to obtain its second win of the season after a 54-8 loss to Honaker last Friday night in Buchanan County. The loss to the Tigers dropped Jeremy Ward’s squad to 0-2 in Black Diamond District play this season. The Honaker Tigers look to get back into the win column this week as they travel to Oakwood to take on Black Diamond District foe Twin Valley. Doug Hubbard’s squad fell a week ago to the Castlewood Blue Devils in a 26-24 contest that gave Castlewood head coach Chris Lark the first victory of his coaching career. It was the first time the Blue Devils knocked off Honaker since 2016 and the first time that Castlewood has been victorious at Fuller Field since 1991.… Read the rest
