Union travels to Abingdon as they look to ground the Falcons

  The Union football team is coming off of a much needed bye week after suffering a 21-13 setback to the Wise Central Warriors on October 18th at Tommy McAmis Field in Norton. Abingdon suffered a double blow last week as they lost star Junior tailback Martin Lucas during the week to a season ending foot injury then suffered a 41-0 loss to the Ridgeview Wolfpack on Friday night in Dickenson County.… Read the rest

Wolfpack claim share of Mountain 7 title with shutout of Falcons

Coming into Friday night’s Mountain 7 District showdown with the Abingdon Falcons, most Ridgeview fans, players and staff were expecting a tough battle.  It was anything but.  The Wolfpack offense eclipsed the 40 point plateau once again and the defense scored its first shutout of the season as the Wolfpack controlled from start to finish in a resounding 41-0 victory.  The victory over the Falcons assures the Wolfpack of no worse than a share of the Mountain 7 District title. … Read the rest

Steele, Simmons help Mance reach 200 club

PHOTO CREDIT – SWVAPHOTOGRAPHY.COM RICHLANDS, Va. — New quarterback Cade Simmons and birthday boy Logan Steele combined for four rushing touchdowns, helping coach Greg Mance win his 200th game at Richlands. That result looked shaky in the first quarter. Abingdon (2-2) opened the game with an 80-yard drive that ate up 8 minutes and 42 seconds off the clock. Abingdon Falcons Hit the Road to Take on New Look Gate City Blue Devils

The Abingdon Falcons take their show on the road to Scott County to this Friday to take on the Gate City Blue Devils. Gate City looks to build off their upset win over Richlands last week, while the Falcons look to pick up where they left off in their 45-14 week one win over John Battle. Abingdon Flexes Muscle Against John Battle; Wins 45-14

The Abingdon Falcons reminded everyone Friday night why they are the defending Mountain 7 District champions. In the first game of the season the Falcons welcomed the John Battle Trojans to Falcon Stadium. Abingdon picked up right where they left off last year, picking up 12 first downs and playing solid defense on there way to a 45 to 14 victory. Football in Southwest Virginia is full of great rivalries. This opening Friday night one of those long-time rivalries will continue when the Abingdon Falcons and the John Battle Trojans square off at Falcon Stadium in Abingdon, Virginia at 7:00 PM.  Abingdon and John Battle have faced 60 times with Abingdon owning the series 42-16-1. Last Week: Abingdon def. Hidden Valley, 20-0 Lord Botetourt def. Christiansburg, 62-6 Last Meeting: Lord Botetourt def.
