Spartans Clinch Home Playoff Opener, Down Blue Devils 42-32

Much was riding on Saturday’s Cumberland District clash with Eastside and Castlewood:  a second place district finish and a home playoff opener.  It was the Spartans of Eastside that came out on top in the back and forth battle by a final of 42-32. The win gives the Spartans a home playoff game in the opening round of the Class 1, Region D playoffs.  Eastside will host the Holston Cavaliers on Saturday, November 16 at 1:30 pm. … Read the rest

Castlewood, Eastside set to collide in Coeburn

  Castlewood and Eastside have met eight times since the 2011 consolidations. The two rival schools have beaten each other four times in the eight game span. Castlewood won the inaugural matchup in 2011, 24-12 and then reeled off three in a row over the Spartans from 2014-2016. Eastside squeaked out a 29-28 victory over the Blue Devils in 2017, a win that clinched the outright regular season Cumberland district title.… Read the rest

Lark, Castlewood set to host Twin Valley

Twin Valley (2-6) at Castlewood (5-3) Twin Valley’s blunders continued last week when the Panthers travelled to Rye Cove. Jeremy Ward’s squad returned from Rye Cove on the wrong end of a 38-8 decision last Friday night. In its third consecutive loss, the Panthers were only able to amass 50 yards of total offense and a touchdown from Larry Justice.  A win this Friday night on the road in Russell County will not be an easier to come by. … Read the rest

Burton takes control of Cumberland with victory over Castlewood

J.I. Burton extended their winning streak to six games while taking over sole possession of first place in the Cumberland after their 28-7 victory over Castlewood Friday night. The loss snapped a four game winning streak for Castlewood and handed the Blue Devils their second Cumberland loss of the season. The Raiders got all they wanted from Castlewood in the first half while only leading 6-0 in the second quarter. Burton welcomes in Castlewood for Cumberland clash

  J.I. Burton has a new head coach but the results haven’t changed. Jacob Caudill has served on the Raiders coaching staff for the last seven years and was the defensive coordinator before taking over the head coaching position this summer. Caudill has his Raiders in position to claim another Cumberland crown if they can hold serve over the final three weeks of the season. Lebanon rolls past Castlewood

Tensions were high as the Lebanon Pioneers played host to their Russell County rivals from Castlewood. The Pioneers came into the game still looking for their first win of the season. While the Blue Devils wanted to become the first Castlewood team to get a road win over Lebanon in 39 years. The added pressure of trying to extend the home winning streak over Castlewood to 40 years weighed heavy on the young Pioneers as the they took the field.… Read the rest

Castlewood, Lebanon ready for Russell County clash

The Lebanon Pioneers (0-6) host the Castlewood Blue Devils (3-4) at Earl “Tommy” Bryant Stadium on Friday night. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. Lebanon leads the series with a  29-10-1 record. The first time the two schools played was in 1957. The Blue Devils haven’t defeated the Pioneers since their 7-0 victory at B.C. White Stadium at Castlewood in 1987.
