Richlands blows Marion away, season showdown with Graham looms

  It was dubbed the Battle of the Storms, but it wasn’t much of a battle as Richlands cruises to a 38-0 victory over Marion. The Blues defense held Marion to just 65 yards of offense, forcing two fumbles and not allowing a Marion first down until well into the second half. Logan Steele rushed for 49 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bears make statement, outlast Graham in a thriller to remain unbeaten

As Koby Crist’s field goal attempt sailed through the uprights, a Bears roar was heard throughout Mitchell Stadium that sent the Union faithful and sidelines into a frenzy. They knew they had just done something special. Union was viewed as heavy underdogs coming in to Friday nights matchup against defending VHSL Class 2 state champion Graham. Bears set to rumble with G-Men

  Saturday November 17, 2018. The Graham G-Men came in to Bullitt Park and ended any hopes of a state championship for the Union Bears and the overflow crowd that hoped to see their Bears advance to the Regional Final. The Bears offense was stymied in the contest, only producing points on a long touchdown run from graduated tailback Avery Jenkins. Cameron Allen, who you can now catch on Saturdays playing for the Purdue Boilermakers, completed 16 of 25 passed for 271 yards and two touchdowns to push the G-Men to a 28-7 victory.… Read the rest

G-Men, Spartans set for Battle at Mitchell Stadium

In week three of VHSL football, the Graham G-men (1-1) will host the Giles Spartans (0-2) at Mitchell Stadium. While Graham’s biggest non-district rivalry will always be Bluefield, and Giles’ will be Narrows, the G-Men and Spartans have turned into a good match-up in recent years. Before 2013, the two schools only played each other four times, splitting the series. Since 2013, they have scheduled each other every season and the last three games finished with an exciting ending, all in Graham’s favor.… Read the rest

G-Men to Host Bulldogs for the 99th Time

  The Graham G-Men, the defending AA state champions, will play host to the resurgent Tazewell Bulldogs tonight in one of the area”s oldest rivalries. Graham is coming off a 41-27 loss to rival Bluefield in a packed house at Mitchell Stadium. The G-Men were led by their senior quarterback Devin Lester. The do-it-all Old Dominion University commit compiled over 250 yards rushing against the stacked Beavers defense, while adding over 100 yards through the air and accounting two touchdowns.… Read the rest

SUCCESS IN SALEM: Graham takes home the gold, whacks Goochland 31-9

Saturday was the type of day for the Graham G-Men that a storybook could not depict any better. Bed sheets hung from bridges in Bluefield, Virginia during the early morning hours on Saturday with messages of well wishes spray-painted on their fabric extending towards the G-Men football team. The late-Glynn Carlock, Graham’s head coach who won 244 games and two state titles during a 32-year tenure from 1973-2004, would’ve turned 81 years old.… Read the rest

1958 Graham G-Men remain the lone undefeated team in school history

  In 1958, the Graham G-Men finished their only unbeaten and untied season with a 10-0 record. Hermitage High of Henrico County edged out the G-Men for the state championship that season. The VHSL did not have official state championship playoffs until 1970. They were done in brackets just as they are now. From 1970 until 1985, there were only three division: A, AA, and AAA. Starting in 1920, there were also three divisions; A, B and C, with A being the largest schools and C being the smallest.… Read the rest
