Eastside played possibly their best defensive game of the year last Friday night as they went on the road and shutout the Twin Springs Titans, 20-0. Gate City continued their offensive outburst against the Lee High Generals last Friday night at Legion Field in Gate City. After scoring 55 points against Marion a week before, the Blue Devils defeated the Generals 51-27, with 45 of those points coming in the first half.
Michael Calhoun, D’Andre Mack, Luke Reed and Carson Jenkins all scored touchdowns in the first quarter as Gate City led 25-0 after the first period.… 
After their big win over Ridgeview, the Union Bears were blindsided by the Wise Central Warriors last Friday night on the road in Norton. In upset fashion, the Warriors ran past the Bears 21-13.
“We didn’t play well, we shot ourselves in the foot.” Stated Union head coach Travis Turner. “Give them credit, they played extremely hard and we didn’t do a very good job coaching.”
A lackluster start from the Bears suggested that an upset was looming.… 
Fresh off of their biggest win of the season over Ridgeview, Union knows they control their own destiny en route to a Mountain 7 title.
The Bears sit at 6-1 overall and hold an unblemished 3-0 record inside Mountain 7 play. With three games remaining against the likes of Wise Central, Abingdon and John Battle, Union knows the road will be tough but the Bears are always up for a fight.… 
Lee High beating Gate City on the football field is something that hasjust not came easy.
The Generals have defeated the Blue Devils just one time in the last 15 years. That victory came in 2017 at Legion Field in Gate City, a 35-0 tail whipping of the Blue Devils.
Lee High (0-6, 0-2) is still looking for their first win of the season, while Gate City (2-5, 0-3) is battling for playoff seeding and looking for their first Mountain 7 victory of the year.… 
All week the hype was surrounded around Trenton Adkins and the undefeated Ridgeview Wolfpack. When the final horn sounded Friday night it was the Union Bears who were celebrating a huge Mountain 7 win. Led by a ferocious defensive attack and three touchdowns from Mason Polier, Union sent the Wolfpack out with a whimper after a 32-26 victory inside the historic confines of Bullitt Park.
“We dug too big of a hole in the first half.” Said Ridgeview head coach Rick Mullins.…

Union, now led by Travis Turner and Ridgeview being led by Rick Mullins still have some pretty daunting names manning the sidelines on Friday nights. Both teams have one goal in mind and that is a Mountain 7 championship. One team will be one step closer in reaching that goal after Friday nights prime time showdown between the two teams.… 
With one half of the season already down, the Union Bears were perfect.
The second half of the season didn’t start off as planned as they suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of the Paintsville Tigers in a 21-14 slugfest at Bullitt Park.
Penalties were aplenty in Friday nights contest as Union was flagged 7 times for 70 yards and Paintsville had 12 flags tossed on them for 135 yards.… 
Big games are nothing new for the Union Bears football program. In fact, Coach Travis Turner and his players welcome the challenge.
“We have some guys on our roster that have played in a lot of big games here at Union. We’ve played in a couple big games this year against Richlands, Graham and even Gate City was a big one for us.” Said Senior Mason Polier. “So, I know we’re all working hard every day in practice to get ready for this last half of the season push.”

With two big games looming in the coming weeks, it would have been easy for Union to overlook a one win Gate City team. The Bears, however, were quick to apply pressure to the Blue Devils.
Two first quarter touchdowns and a 21-0 lead at halftime proved to be enough to propel Union to a 28-14 victory on homecoming night at Bullitt Park.
