Region D, 2A Semi Final #3 Graham G-Men (11-1): 28 #2 Union Bears (9-3): 7   BIG STONE GAP, Va.,-Consider any demons exorcised. Behind a dominant defense and a big play offense, the Graham G-Men rolled into Bullitt Park and routed the Union Bears 28-7 in the Region D semi final. Graham and Union set for another playoff showdown

Region D, 2A Semi Finals Graham G-Men (10-1, 5-0) 3-seed at Union Bears (9-2, 4-2) 2-seed   Two of the most successful Region D programs in recent memory will meet this week. The Graham G-Men travel to Big Stone Gap to take on the Union Bears in the Region D semi finals. Union uses power run game to eliminate John Battle

Region D, 2A Quarterfinals  Union-21 John Battle-0 The Union Bears relied on their power run game and a suffocating defense to end the John Battle Trojans’ season Saturday at Bullitt Park. The Bears (9-2) racked up over 300 rushing yards on offense and shut out the visiting Trojans (5-6) for the second straight week to advance to a Region D semi-final matchup with Graham. Union, John Battle prepare for round two in first round of playoffs

Region D, 2A opening round John Battle (5-5, 3-3, 7th seed) at Union Bears (8-2, 4-2, 2nd seed) For the second week in a row, the Union Bears and John Battle Trojans will meet on the field with this meeting being the opening round of the Region D, 2A playoffs. The first meeting in the regular season finale saw the Bears defeat the Trojans 12-0 on Battle Hill in Bristol. Both teams likely played the finale closer to the vest, both due to the rainy conditions and the prospect of the teams meeting in the opener of the playoffs.… Read the rest

Union overcomes Battle in regular season finale

Friday marked the second consecutive week that Union took the field in a downpour, but this week’s contest ended much more favorably for the Bears. Union relied on a steady dose of Aaron Stidham and a smothering defense to shut out John Battle 12-0 to end the regular season. It was a low scoring, defensive slugfest in muddy and rainy conditions for both squds. Union (8-2, 4-2) struck first on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Bailey Turner that found Justin Falin in the end zone to get on the board and take a 6-0 lead.… Read the rest

Bears look to rebound against Trojans in regular season finale

Week 11 Preview Union Bears (7-2, 3-2) at John Battle Trojans (5-4, 3-2) Last Week: Abingdon def. Union, 35-17; John Battle def. Lee, 20-14 Last Meeting: Union def. Battle, 57-29. Union leads series 5-0 The final week of the regular season sees the Union Bears, fresh off of a blowout home loss to Abingdon, travel to take on the upset minded John Battle Trojans. Falcons top Bears to remain unbeaten in the M7

The rain was steady at Bullitt Park as Abingdon (7-2 5-0) and Union (7-2 3-2) took the field for a showdown to potentially decide the Mountain 7 district. The Falcons were back to their usual game plan.  Stifle the run, play gritty defense and take advantage of opportunities.  The Falcons did just that.  Union turned the ball over three times on their first four drives to open the game.  Abingdon capitalized on those turnovers but only put up nine points thanks to Graham Griffith’s 39-yard field goal in the first quarter and William Seymore’s score after the Falcons recovered a fumble deep in the Bears territory.… Read the rest
