Two of the most successful Region D programs in recent memory will meet this week. The Graham G-Men travel to Big Stone Gap to take on the Union Bears in the Region D semi finals. The two teams have won a combined 84 games since 2015, with both teams winning double digit games in 2016 and 2017.…

For the second week in a row, the Union Bears and John Battle Trojans will meet on the field with this meeting being the opening round of the Region D, 2A playoffs. The first meeting in the regular season finale saw the Bears defeat the Trojans 12-0 on Battle Hill in Bristol.
Both teams likely played the finale closer to the vest, both due to the rainy conditions and the prospect of the teams meeting in the opener of the playoffs.… 
Friday marked the second consecutive week that Union took the field in a downpour, but this week’s contest ended much more favorably for the Bears. Union relied on a steady dose of Aaron Stidham and a smothering defense to shut out John Battle 12-0 to end the regular season.
It was a low scoring, defensive slugfest in muddy and rainy conditions for both squds. Union (8-2, 4-2) struck first on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Bailey Turner that found Justin Falin in the end zone to get on the board and take a 6-0 lead.…

The final week of the regular season sees the Union Bears, fresh off of a blowout home loss to Abingdon, travel to take on the upset minded John Battle Trojans. Battle held off Lee High last week to move to 3-2 in the Mountain 7 and 5-4 overall.…

Week 10 brings a matchup that will decide the Mountain 7 district title. The Abingdon Falcons, flying high after notching a huge conference win over Ridgeview, can clinch at least a share of the M7 crown. If Abingdon wins out, they claim the outright M7 crown.… 
In most contests, it’s the Union Bears’ run game that gets all the publicity and scores all the points. That was not the case Friday night. Senior quarterback Bailey Turner tossed three first half touchdown passes on homecoming to lead Union (7-1, 3-1) to a 38-13 win over the visiting Wise Central Warriors (1-6, 0-4).
Turner’s first scoring strike came in the first quarter. He connected with Noah Garrison in the end zone from 15 yards out to give the Bears an early lead.…

One of the most ferocious and competitive rivalry on the hardcourt, there is little love lost between Union and Wise-Central. However, on the football field, it has became a lopsided affair. After winning the first game post consolidation, the Warriors have dropped six in a row to the Bears.… 
It was a sluggish start for the Union Bears in their first home game after a three game road trip. The visiting Lee High Generals dominated the time of possession and had double the offensive snaps in the opening stanza. But senior running back Avery Jenkins changed all of that in an instant. The track star scored three second quarter touchdowns that gave the Bears a big lead going into the break and allowed Union to cruise to a 42-7 conference victory.…

Fans of the Union Bears are accustomed to exciting games that aren’t decided until late in the fourth quarter. Friday was no exception. The Bears needed a late touchdown and a timely interception to secure an important road victory, 28-20.
The Trojans struck first when Zack Young found a wide open Grant Misenheimer in the end zone for a 47-yard touchdown reception to put West ahead 7-0.…
