Region D, 2A opening round John Battle (5-5, 3-3, 7th seed) at Union Bears (8-2, 4-2, 2nd seed) For the second week in a row, the Union Bears and John Battle Trojans will meet on the field with this meeting being the opening round of the Region D, 2A playoffs. The first meeting in the regular season finale saw the Bears defeat the Trojans 12-0 on Battle Hill in Bristol. Union overcomes Battle in regular season finale

Friday marked the second consecutive week that Union took the field in a downpour, but this week’s contest ended much more favorably for the Bears. Union relied on a steady dose of Aaron Stidham and a smothering defense to shut out John Battle 12-0 to end the regular season. It was a low scoring, defensive slugfest in muddy and rainy conditions for both squds. Union cruises by Wise-Central, 38-13

In most contests, it’s the Union Bears’ run game that gets all the publicity and scores all the points. That was not the case Friday night. Senior quarterback Bailey Turner tossed three first half touchdown passes on homecoming to lead Union (7-1, 3-1) to a 38-13 win over the visiting Wise Central Warriors (1-6, 0-4). Jenkins helps Bears blow by Lee High

It was a sluggish start for the Union Bears in their first home game after a three game road trip. The visiting Lee High Generals dominated the time of possession and had double the offensive snaps in the opening stanza. But senior running back Avery Jenkins changed all of that in an instant.
