Wolfpack down Blue Devils 42-7

Most patrons who showed up at the Ridge on Friday night were expecting a closely contested game between Ridgeview and Gate City. Adkins, Wolfpack run wild over Warriors

The much hyped Mountain 7 District showdown between Ridgeview and Wise Central turned into another scintillating episode of the Trenton Adkins show. Adkins scored all six of the Wolfpack’s touchdowns on Friday night and racked up another 366 yards on the ground in the process.  Through three contests, the junior has already broke the 1,000 yard mark for the season. Ridgeview downs Wise Central to earn first playoff win

Objective number one can be marked off the checklist for coach Rick Mullins and his Ridgeview Wolfpack team.  The Wolfpack earned their first ever playoff victory on Friday night with a whooping of the Wise Central Warriors 49-14.  “We talked earlier this week about making history,” Mullins said.  “They wanted to get that first playoff win.” The Wolfpack did not take long to get off to an explosive start.  On the third play from scrimmage, Trenton Adkins raced 42 yards to the house. … Read the rest

Union overcomes Battle in regular season finale

Friday marked the second consecutive week that Union took the field in a downpour, but this week’s contest ended much more favorably for the Bears. Union relied on a steady dose of Aaron Stidham and a smothering defense to shut out John Battle 12-0 to end the regular season. It was a low scoring, defensive slugfest in muddy and rainy conditions for both squds. Union (8-2, 4-2) struck first on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Bailey Turner that found Justin Falin in the end zone to get on the board and take a 6-0 lead.… Read the rest

Wolfpack leave Bluegrass State with victory

The Ridgeview Wolfpack looked to get back on track Friday night against interstate opponent Pike County Central.  On a chilly, rainy and muddy October evening in Pikeville, Kentucky the Pack had no trouble with the Hawks in a resounding 47-14 victory at the Hawk’s Nest. The Wolfpack did not take long to make their presence known in the contest.  11 seconds after the contest began, the Pack were on the board courtesy of a Matthew Sexton 64-yard sprint right up the gut. … Read the rest

Chris Akers resigns at Gate City after three seasons

The Gate City Blue Devils finished the 2018 football season Thursday night with a disappointing loss to the Wise Central Warriors in overtime.  As it turns out, the contest was the last for Chris Akers as the head coach for the Blue Devils.  Akers resigned his post officially on Monday, finishing his tenure at the helm of the Devils with a 7-24 record, which includes back to back 1-9 seasons. The 2016 season was respectable for Gate City with Akers leading the charge. … Read the rest
