Wolfpack open season with win over Raiders, Adkins scores 5 TD’s

Lawson-Fitchko Stadium in downtown Norton was the site of Southwest Virginia’s opening football contest of 2019.  The venerable stadium was also the host of one of Southwest Virginia’s finest single performances in recent memory.  Trenton Adkins of the Ridgeview Wolfpack rushed for 357 yards and 5 TD’s on the night in a 40-13 convincing victory over the John I. Wolfpack look to continue upward trend in 2019

  In the short four year history of the Ridgeview Wolfpack football program, there have been some ups and some downs.  The 2018 season would classify as a trend in the upward direction.  Ridgeview had its most successful season to date, finishing with a 10-2 record and runner up in the highly competitive Mountain 7 District for the second straight season. The Wolfpack earned the top seed in the Class 2, Region D playoffs and won their first ever playoff game before falling to Richlands in the Region D semifinals. … Read the rest

Warriors dispatch Maroon Tide on way to state championship game

Unfinished business.  Those two words have been the mantra for the Chilhowie Warriors football team in 2018.  Those words are in reference to the quest for a state championship for the small Smyth County school.  A season ago, the Warriors came up one game short in that quest, a 42-0 loss to Riverheads in the class 1 championship game.  The Warriors will get a second chance to conquer the quest after a 28-7 victory over the Galax Maroon Tide on Saturday.… Read the rest

Ridgeview downs Wise Central to earn first playoff win

Objective number one can be marked off the checklist for coach Rick Mullins and his Ridgeview Wolfpack team.  The Wolfpack earned their first ever playoff victory on Friday night with a whooping of the Wise Central Warriors 49-14.  “We talked earlier this week about making history,” Mullins said.  “They wanted to get that first playoff win.” The Wolfpack did not take long to get off to an explosive start.  On the third play from scrimmage, Trenton Adkins raced 42 yards to the house. … Read the rest
