Twin Valley (2-6) at Castlewood (5-3)
Twin Valley’s blunders continued last week when the Panthers travelled to Rye Cove. Jeremy Ward’s squad returned from Rye Cove on the wrong end of a 38-8 decision last Friday night. In its third consecutive loss, the Panthers were only able to amass 50 yards of total offense and a touchdown from Larry Justice.
A win this Friday night on the road in Russell County will not be an easier to come by.
Castlewood looks to get back into the win column this week after its first loss in almost a month. The Blue Devils fell last week to Cumberland District rival J.I. Burton in Norton by a score of 28-7. The Blue Devils held on to a 7-6 halftime lead before they were shut out in the second half. Jeremiah Allen scored Castlewood’s only touchdown in the second quarter to compliment his 92 yards of rushing.
Chris Lark has Castlewood rolling in his first year at the helm of the Blue Devils. Lark has led Castlewood past county rivals Honaker and Lebanon for the first time in the same year since 1987.
In addition to its Russell County foes, Castlewood has knocked off Rye Cove, Northwood and Twin Springs while suffering losses to Thomas Walker, Patrick Henry and Burton.
In a series that dates back to 2005, Castlewood holds a 6-0 edge in the series. The Blue Devils have dominated Twin Valley in this series, outscoring the Panthers 242-65. However, these two teams last met up in 2012 in Oakwood when the Blue Devils was led by former Grundy standout David Scammell. The Panthers were then led by Scammell’s quarterback at Grundy—Tommy Crigger.
