Panthers complete undefeated season, dominate Wolfpack in interstate showdown

The Pikeville Panthers are currently ranked number one in the state in Kentucky in 1A football.  This past Friday night, football fans in southwest Virginia found out why. Panthers defeat East Ridge on homecoming

The next several weeks are very crucial for the Twin Valley Panthers in their chase for a spot in the Class 1, Region D playoffs.  Coming into this past Friday’s interstate matchup with the East Ridge Warriors, the Panthers were on the outside looking in.  48 minutes of football later, the Panthers achieved a critical win on homecoming night over there 2A opponents by a final score of 48-28. In a Battle of the Panthers, the storyline coming away from Oakwood was about a bearded tailback from Twin Valley. Folks on the other side of the Dismal River thought a coal truck was putting in an extra shift ahead of Hurricane Florence. However, the only rumbling in Buchanan County last Thursday was Twin Valley tailback Brandon Lester. Panthers, Rockets set for take off Friday in Oakwood

Was that Brandon Lester or a coal truck barreling through Oakwood last Thursday? If you ask Chris Duble and the Northwood Panthers, they would vouch that Lester and coal truck are synonyms. In a 52-30 Twin Valley victory, Lester could not have performed at a higher level. The senior tailback scored 38 of Twin Valley’s 52 points a week ago. Twin Valley defeats Northwood 52-30 in Battle of the Panthers

The football field in the small Buchanan County community of Oakwood that hosts Twin Valley High School games is sometimes referred to as the “House that Roger Rife built.”  The legendary coach of the Garden Green Dragons nearly won a state title in 1986 behind his stout defense. Those Garden Green Dragons eventually consolidated with fellow Buchanan County compatriot Whitewood in 2001 to form Twin Valley High School.  Even though Garden and coach Rife were known for their defense,  Twin Valley’s offense led by Brandon Lester that was the star attraction at the show Thursday night.… Read the rest
