Bearcats grind out important district win over Marion

Thursday night’s matchup between Southwest District foes Virginia High and Marion can be described in one word…..physical. The new-look offense of Virginia High had four different players combine for 54 carries, 305 yards and two touchdowns to pave the way for a 27-12 victory over Marion. The victory locks up a playoff spot for the fourth consecutive year for the Bearcats. Virginia High ran primarily out of a two back set and were led on the night by speedy freshman Stevie Thomas (180 yards and a touchdown) and senior strongman Aaron Rose (118 yards and a touchdown).… Read the rest

Virginia High, Marion battle for playoff positioning

On Thursday night, the Virginia High Bearcats will make the trip north on I-81 for an important Southwest District game against the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes. Each team enters the contest at 4-4 with Virginia High coming off a much needed 41-0 win at Lebanon, while Marion is coming off of a 34-20 victory over Tazewell. Pioneers, Bearcats set for SWD battle

The Virginia High Bearcats (3-4) will be paying a visit to the Lebanon Pioneers (1-6) on Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Harry Stuart Field. Lebanon Head Coach Michael Webb knows his team has their work cut out for them, “Va High is a very talented team. Great Skill Kids, Big on the OL and DL, Well Coached. Bearcats welcome G-Men for SWD battle

  In a game that was moved from Thursday to Friday because of inclement weather from Hurricane Michael, the Graham G-Men (5-1) are set to take on the Virginia High Bearcats (3-3) in Bristol. Early in the season, this matchup was circled on many calendars as a potential game to decide a favorite in the Southwest District. Falcons top Bearcats in defensive showdown, 14-6

In one of the lowest scoring games in this longstanding rivalry, it’s only fitting that it was a defensive play that sealed the win for the Falcons. Facing a 14-0 deficit late in the game, the Virginia High Bearcats’ offense was finally able to find the end zone on a touchdown strike from quarterback Jamie Lathrop to wide receiver Taurean Bizzell. Abingdon, 20-19 The Abingdon Falcons are back on the road this week to Bristol for a road game with the Virginia High Bearcats. Bearcats set for high profile showdown with Chilhowie

On Friday night, Smyth County will be the place to be when the Chilhowie Warriors (5-0) host the Virginia High Bearcats (3-1). The Warriors, the last team standing from far southwest Virginia in 2017, return 20 starters from a team that advanced to the 1A state championship game.
