Grayson County defeats GW, 36-28 to set up MED showdown at Galax

The Grayson County football team has overachieved all season.  Most pundits expected the Blue Devils to make the playoffs, but to be at the bottom half of the eight seeded teams.  After Monday night’s victory over George Wythe, Grayson County finds themselves solidly holding down the two seed in the Class 2, Region D playoff race.  The Blue Devils used a relentless ground attack behind backs Levi Jones and Jake Hollingsworth to defeat the Maroons 36-28 Monday night in a game rescheduled after Friday’s rain.… Read the rest

Wolfpack leave Bluegrass State with victory

The Ridgeview Wolfpack looked to get back on track Friday night against interstate opponent Pike County Central.  On a chilly, rainy and muddy October evening in Pikeville, Kentucky the Pack had no trouble with the Hawks in a resounding 47-14 victory at the Hawk’s Nest. The Wolfpack did not take long to make their presence known in the contest.  11 seconds after the contest began, the Pack were on the board courtesy of a Matthew Sexton 64-yard sprint right up the gut. … Read the rest

Chris Akers resigns at Gate City after three seasons

The Gate City Blue Devils finished the 2018 football season Thursday night with a disappointing loss to the Wise Central Warriors in overtime.  As it turns out, the contest was the last for Chris Akers as the head coach for the Blue Devils.  Akers resigned his post officially on Monday, finishing his tenure at the helm of the Devils with a 7-24 record, which includes back to back 1-9 seasons. Warriors outlast Blue Devils in OT thriller

The Gate City Blue Devils and Wise Central Warriors came into Thursday night’s Mountain 7 district contest with similar agendas.  The Blue Devils wanted to close out a disappointing season with a victory.  The Warriors needed a victory desperately to stay in contention for a playoff spot in Region 2D.  Central came from two scores behind to defeat the Devils by the tally of 22-21 in an overtime thriller at Central Warrior Stadium on Thursday night.… Read the rest

Wolfpack hold off Trojans, 24-7

The Ridgeview Wolfpack were on top of the world heading into this past Friday night’s Mountain 7 district game with the John Battle Trojans.  The Trojans were looking for a place to belong in the Region 2D playoff hunt.  After 36 minutes of football, it was a deadlock on who would come out of Friday night’s contest as the superior team.  The Wolfpack took command in the fourth quarter and rattled off 17 unanswered points, taking a 24-7 win to keep their perfect record intact.… Read the rest

Panthers defeat East Ridge on homecoming

The next several weeks are very crucial for the Twin Valley Panthers in their chase for a spot in the Class 1, Region D playoffs.  Coming into this past Friday’s interstate matchup with the East Ridge Warriors, the Panthers were on the outside looking in.  48 minutes of football later, the Panthers achieved a critical win on homecoming night over there 2A opponents by a final score of 48-28. Tigers, Raiders set for battle on homecoming night in Honaker

After starting the season 3-0, the Honaker Tigers have hit a two-game losing skid. The Tigers are indeed into the meat of their schedule and it will not get ant easier when the 3-2 J.I. Burton Raiders travel to Fuller Field for battle. Honaker is coming off a 41-17 defeat at the hands of the George Wythe Maroons last week at Pendleton Field in Wytheville.
