A week after Grundy and J.I. Burton each squeaked out victories in week seven, the slate does not clear up for either team.
The two will meet up in Norton on Friday in the latest edition of the CoalfieldSports.com Game of the Week.
The contest has high implications on how the 1D playoff standings will shake out at season’s end.
There is also much familiarity between these two squads. The Golden Wave took home a win in last season’s regular season matchup, while the Raiders ended Grundy’s season in a rematch at Nelson Memorial Stadium in the first round of the playoffs.… 
The first domino on the goal sheet for the Grundy Golden Wave could fall at the Cliff on Friday when it travels to Hurley to take on the Rebels.
With a win over their archrival, Grundy will claim the Black Diamond District Championship.
With the recent string of success that the Wave has rattled off as of late, the odds are in Craig Plymal and Grundy’s favor.

The epicenter for the largest upset in the Commonwealth of Virginia was in Oakwood last Friday night.
The Twin Valley Panthers sat at 3-1 and were ready to play host to a Craig County Rockets team that had lost 30 consecutive football games.
A win over Craig County would move the Panthers to their best start in school history with a 4-1 record.
After being so dominant against Northwood a week earlier in a 52-30 victory, how could Twin Valley let the Rockets squeak through the cracks?…

At the Honaker Tigers media day, Doug Hubbard said that the Black Diamond District was Grundy’s until someone knocked them off.
Luckily for Hubbard, his Tigers will get a chance to do just that in the CoalfieldSports.com Game of the Week as Honaker travels to Grundy.
“I expect them to be ready to play. I expect both teams to be ready. I think it’s gonna be a great atmosphere,” Hubbard said Wednesday.… 
The past two weeks in Buchanan County have been filled with talks about how Grundy tailback Gabe Fiser has broken the school record for rushing yards in a game in back to back weeks.

A week removed from a 40-12 interstate victory over the RiverView (WV) Raiders, Grundy travels to take on former Southwest District rival Lebanon.
Lebanon stands at 0-2 after falling in the Coal Bowl to Honaker, 35-28, in week one and taking a 48-8 thumping by the Lee Generals in week two.

The way Grundy running back Gabe Fiser was moving Friday night, he probably could’ve outran the bus back across Route 83 on its trip back from Bradshaw.
Behind Fiser’s 336 yards—a new Grundy school record—and three touchdowns, the Golden Wave returned from River View (WV) with a 40-12 victory. The performance from the senior tailback has given him the nod as CoalfieldSports.com’s Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2.
