Tornado travels 151 miles for battle with Terriers

Tonight, the Richlands Blue Tornado (1-2) look to end their two game losing skid as they travel to Vinton to take on the undefeated William Byrd Terriers (4-0) at Robert A. Patterson Stadium. The Blues are coming off a 49-17 loss at the hands of the Blacksburg Bruins last week. Due to Hurricane Florence threatening, the game was moved up to Thursday and even had a change of venue. Resilient third quarter not enough as Bruins blow past Blues

As good as advertised. That’s about all you can say for the Blacksburg Bruins. The Bruins showcased exactly why they have earned the distinction of a contender for the Class 4 title. A poised gunslinger quarterback, that the PA announced actually compared to Brett Favre, matched with a plethora of receivers led by UVa-commit Tiquest Terry were too much for the Blue Tornado. In a game with no atmosphere (being played at Christiansburg instead of Blacksburg), the Blues came out flat.… Read the rest

Tornado, Bruins set for battle before Hurricane Florence

The Richlands Blue Tornado (1-1) and the Blacksburg Bruins (3-0) like many teams in the area pushed their game back to Thursday in efforts to get the game in before Hurricane Florence pours down on the region. However, in the case of the Tornado and the Bruins, there was another variable added to the mix. Thursday’s game was moved from Blacksburg’s Bill Brown Stadium to Christiansburg’s newly installed artificial turf at Evans Kings Stadium at Christiansburg High School.… Read the rest

Bears hold on to defeat Blues, 42-28

A score can be deceiving. The scoreboard at Ernie Hicks Stadium read 42-28 when the dust settled. However, the game was far from a blowout. The Tornado drove down the field looking to tie the game. However, Bryce Guerrant snagged an errant pass from Richlands quarterback Race Moir and returned it 18 yards for the game sealing touchdown. While this game broke the tradition of the game being decided by six points or less, there was no shortage of excitement.… Read the rest

Navy the dominate shade in the 2018 Battle of the Blues

A football game was played Friday night at Legion Field in Gate City, Va. At times, it seemed as if only one team was out there. The Richlands Blue Tornado used a resurgent offensive performance and a strong defensive performance to cruise past the Gate City Blue Devils 42-7. In front of a subpar crowd — by Legion Field standards, Tornado quarterback Race Moir unleashed three touchdown strikes, while running back Trey Brown added two scores on the ground to produce a 35-0 halftime lead.… Read the rest
