The lone Saturday game in the opening round of the Class 2, Region D playoffs features a Week 8 rematch between the Graham G-Men (9-1) and the Virginia High Bearcats (5-5).
The first contest between the two teams back in October, saw Cam Allen lead the G-Men to a 44-7 rout of the Bearcats. Allen tallied four total touchdowns as Graham turned in a dominate second half performance in the blowout win, after leading 16-0 at halftime.… 
Exhale.
That’s what a collective fanbase did after the excitement of a thrilling overtime game had faded from Gene Malcolm Stadium.
Staring down the uprights, Levi “Fle” Forrest had missed his three previous attempts, including an attempt at a game winner just moments earlier.
This one was true, however, and it lifted Richlands to a 17-14 victory over Southwest District foe Virginia on senior night.
Richlands drove the field on their opening drive, only for Race Moir to be hit and fumble the ball in the backfield.… 
Friday night at Gene Malcolm Stadium will be a night of emotion and reflection for the Virginia High seniors and their families as the Bearcats welcome the Richlands Blue Tornado on senior night.
It will also be a night that features a matchup between two teams that many people consider to be darkhorses as we approach the Region 2D playoffs next week.
The winner of this game will lock up the number five seed for the playoffs, with a potential trip to either Grayson County, Graham or Union in the first round.… 
Thursday night’s matchup between Southwest District foes Virginia High and Marion can be described in one word…..physical.
The new-look offense of Virginia High had four different players combine for 54 carries, 305 yards and two touchdowns to pave the way for a 27-12 victory over Marion.
The victory locks up a playoff spot for the fourth consecutive year for the Bearcats.
Virginia High ran primarily out of a two back set and were led on the night by speedy freshman Stevie Thomas (180 yards and a touchdown) and senior strongman Aaron Rose (118 yards and a touchdown).… 
On Thursday night, the Virginia High Bearcats will make the trip north on I-81 for an important Southwest District game against the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes.
Each team enters the contest at 4-4 with Virginia High coming off a much needed 41-0 win at Lebanon, while Marion is coming off of a 34-20 victory over Tazewell.
These two teams actually played twice in 2017. In week 10, the Bearcats ended Marion’s hopes of an undefeated regular season with a 14-7 victory.… 
The mood tonight inside Mitchell Stadium will be a mixed bag.
On one hand, you have the marquee game of Tazewell County, as well as the Southwest District.
On, the other, you have a team in Blue who will have heavy hearts following the death of one of their classmates earlier this week.
The Blues will honor the life and memory of Justin Dye tonight by wearing helmets with his initials on the back of each one.…
