Falcons, Blue Devils set for Mountain 7 showdown

The Gate City Blue Devils make the journey from Scott County to Falcon Field in Abingdon this Friday.  Gate City looks to find a winning formula, while the Falcons look to continue where they left off in a week one win over John Battle.  The side note to this contest is that former Falcon head coach Darren Reed returns to Falcon Field as the defensive coordinator for Gate City. New Abingdon head coach Garrett Amburgey has the Falcons soaring on offense with a balanced attack and playing gritty hard nosed defense on the other side of the ball.… Read the rest

Falcons smack Rebels in benefit game

The annual benefit game between Abingdon and Patrick Henry was held August 16.  As usual, it was the dog days of summer in Glade Spring–hot and humid with a hint of football in the air.  Rebel quarterback Brady Stiltner struck first with a 53-yard touchdown pass to give Patrick Henry a 6-0 advantage in the first quarter.  Abingdon’s offense settled in and started executing. Abingdon’s senior quarterback Gabe Boothe (10-17, 166 YDS) put together a five play,  67-yard drive to help the Falcons answer.  … Read the rest

Abingdon Spotlight: Head Coach Garrett Amburgey

There’s a new sheriff in town. His name is Garrett Amburgey. With the sudden departure of head coach Darren Reed a week before practice began, the Abingdon Falcons found themselves in limbo and wondering which way the 2018 season would turn.  Luckily, a familiar face appeared.  Former Falcon offensive coordinator, Garrett Amburgey, returns to the friendly confines of Falcon Stadium to lead the 2018 Abingdon squad as their new head coach.… Read the rest

Musings from jamboree at Ernie

There was a familiar scene at Ernie Hicks Stadium in Richlands on Friday night. Pads were popping, fans were cheering, you could smell the Lions Club concession stand. That can only mean one thing: football is back in The ‘Lands. The Blues hosted former Southwest District foe Abingdon, as well as Kentucky powerhouse Belfry in an annual jamboree that most in Richlands look forward to.
