Panthers defeat East Ridge on homecoming

The next several weeks are very crucial for the Twin Valley Panthers in their chase for a spot in the Class 1, Region D playoffs.  Coming into this past Friday’s interstate matchup with the East Ridge Warriors, the Panthers were on the outside looking in.  48 minutes of football later, the Panthers achieved a critical win on homecoming night over there 2A opponents by a final score of 48-28. Fumbles doom Blue Devils homecoming against Pack

It’s no secret that the Ridgeview Wolfpack have one of the most explosive offenses in all of the Coalfield Sports coverage area.  What many folks are now realizing is that the Pack also have a pesky defense.  A week after causing four turnovers against the Lee High Generals, the Pack were able to create four more against the Gate City Blue Devils on Friday night.  The Pack came out of Gate City with a 35-7 victory on homecoming night at Legion Field.… Read the rest

Coalfield Sports Week 5 DPOW: Ridgeview’s Carson Sykes

The Ridgeview Wolfpack’s Carson Sykes had a game to remember in week five against the Lee High Generals at Five Star Stadium in Ben Hur.  Sykes was all over the gridiron making plays.  Sykes finished the Mountain 7 contest with three tackles, a fumble recovery and three interceptions.  The outstanding breakthrough performance earned Sykes the CoalfieldSports.com Defensive Player of the Week award for week five. “I felt honored just to be nominated, but to actually win it I feel very happy, humbled, and proud,” said a jubilant Sykes.… Read the rest

Wolfpack maul Generals, 49-7

Heading into Friday night’s Mountain 7 District clash with the Lee High Generals, most folks wondered if the Wolfpack would have a letdown after  defeating the Union Bears the week before. 48 minutes later, the Wolfpack delivered an emphatic answer with a 49-7 thrashing of the Generals in Ben Hur. Twin Valley defeats Northwood 52-30 in Battle of the Panthers

The football field in the small Buchanan County community of Oakwood that hosts Twin Valley High School games is sometimes referred to as the “House that Roger Rife built.”  The legendary coach of the Garden Green Dragons nearly won a state title in 1986 behind his stout defense. Those Garden Green Dragons eventually consolidated with fellow Buchanan County compatriot Whitewood in 2001 to form Twin Valley High School.  Even though Garden and coach Rife were known for their defense,  Twin Valley’s offense led by Brandon Lester that was the star attraction at the show Thursday night.… Read the rest

Coalfield Sports OPOTW Week 3: Ridgeview’s Trenton Adkins

  Before the 2018 VHSL football season started, a lot of hype centered around Ridgeview tailback Trenton Adkins.  The Wolfpack sophomore exploded onto the scene during his freshman campaign, where he rushed for nearly 1,500 yards.  During the offseason, the offers began mounting up for Adkins at an impressive rate.  The speedy tailback already has offers on the table from Tennessee, Penn State, Florida, North Carolina and the University of Texas at San Antonio.… Read the rest
