Bearcats look to take city championship from Vikings

Friday night marks the 102nd meeting all-time between the 2A Virginia High Bearcats and the 5A Tennessee High Vikings, and has been voted CoalfieldSports.com’s “Game of the Week.” The V-T game is one of the oldest high school football rivalries in the country. Bearcats shake off slow start, win fifth straight game over John Battle

The Virginia High Bearcats received some preseason hype from fans and coaches around the region. For the second consecutive week, the Bearcats have shown flashes of greatness but have also shown to be sluggish. In a complete reversal of week one, Virginia High started off a little out of sorts before taking off in the second half to pull out a 20-13 week two victory against the John Battle Trojans. Bearcats, Trojans battle for Bristol

  For the 56th consecutive season, the Virginia High Bearcats will play their county rival, the John Battle Trojans, this Friday night at Gene Malcolm Stadium. This will actually be the 57th matchup between the schools, as 2012 saw the teams play in the regular season and again in the playoffs, with Battle winning both games. Since 2000, Virginia High holds a 15-4 record against the Trojans and have a 44-11-1 edge in a series that dates back to 1963.… Read the rest

Bearcats claw Bulldogs in 2018 season opener

Whether it’s been the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the Four Horsemen led by the great Knute Rockne at Notre Dame or the stylin’ and profilin’ Four Horsemen of the NWA/WCW days, the term “Four Horsemen” has always been applied to a quartet of greatness. Virginia High to host Union in benefit game

On Thursday night August 16th, the Union Bears will travel to Bristol to take on the Virginia High Bearcats for 2018’s benefit game. This will be the second consecutive year that these two teams have locked horns in the final tune-up before the start of the regular season. Last year’s contest was closer than expected. It also served as a pretty accurate forecast of things to come.
