Honaker set to battle Northwood

Northwood (1-7) at Honaker (4-4) Doug Hubbard and the Honaker Tigers looks to bounce back on Senior Night at Fuller Field against the Northwood Panthers on Friday. The Tigers made the trip to Glade Spring a week ago to do battle with Region 1D’s best in the Patrick Henry Rebels. Mark Palmer’s squad pummeled Honaker by a score of 49-21. Richlands stuffed by Graham defense, look to rebound in Lebanon

There were fireworks. There was electricity in the air. And there was the Graham defense. The G-Men shut down a surging Richlands offensive attack, blowing past the Blue Tornado 37-10. Hurley, Auburn square off at The Cliff

Auburn (4-5) at Hurley (4-4) After back-to-back thrillers on the road, the Hurley Rebels return home to The Cliff on Friday to host the Auburn Eagles.  The Rebels fell on the road in Damascus last week to the Holston Cavaliers by a score of 28-22. Holston scored the game-winning touchdown with under a minute to play on a 14-yard pass from Quaheim Brooks to Logan Walden.  Matthew Blankenship, who found the end zone on the ground twice, led the Hurley offense.… Read the rest

Hubbard, Honaker face big test vs. Patrick Henry

Honaker (4-3) at Patrick Henry (7-0)  Doug Hubbard and his squad are riding high after a big 36-30 win last Friday in a two overtime game against Hurley. Grundy (4-3) at Chilhowie (6-1)  The first seven weeks of the season have provided two completely different results for the Grundy Golden Wave. After starting the season 4-0, Craig Plymal’s squad has dropped three in a row. The losing skid is the longest of Plymal’s tenure as the head coach of his alma mater. Twin Valley (2-5) at Rye Cove (3-4) Twin Valley racked up its fifth loss of the season in a 36-6 loss to Thomas Walker a week ago. Hurley (4-3) at Holston (4-3) Two 4-3 football teams are set for a showdown in one of southwest Virginia’s marquee matchups for week nine.  The Hurley Rebels look to get back on track this week after a heartbreaking 36-30 loss in two overtimes last Friday at Honaker.
