Graham hosts Virginia High in Region D quarterfinals

The lone Saturday game in the opening round of the Class 2, Region D playoffs features a Week 8 rematch between the Graham G-Men (9-1) and the Virginia High Bearcats (5-5). The first contest between the two teams back in October, saw Cam Allen lead the G-Men to a 44-7 rout of the Bearcats. Bearcats host Blue Tornado in key SWD clash

Friday night at Gene Malcolm Stadium will be a night of emotion and reflection for the Virginia High seniors and their families as the Bearcats welcome the Richlands Blue Tornado on senior night. It will also be a night that features a matchup between two teams that many people consider to be darkhorses as we approach the Region 2D playoffs next week. Bearcats grind out important district win over Marion

Thursday night’s matchup between Southwest District foes Virginia High and Marion can be described in one word…..physical. The new-look offense of Virginia High had four different players combine for 54 carries, 305 yards and two touchdowns to pave the way for a 27-12 victory over Marion. The victory locks up a playoff spot for the fourth consecutive year for the Bearcats. Virginia High, Marion battle for playoff positioning

On Thursday night, the Virginia High Bearcats will make the trip north on I-81 for an important Southwest District game against the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes. Each team enters the contest at 4-4 with Virginia High coming off a much needed 41-0 win at Lebanon, while Marion is coming off of a 34-20 victory over Tazewell. Falcons top Bearcats in defensive showdown, 14-6

In one of the lowest scoring games in this longstanding rivalry, it’s only fitting that it was a defensive play that sealed the win for the Falcons. Facing a 14-0 deficit late in the game, the Virginia High Bearcats’ offense was finally able to find the end zone on a touchdown strike from quarterback Jamie Lathrop to wide receiver Taurean Bizzell. On Friday night, Smyth County will be the place to be when the Chilhowie Warriors (5-0) host the Virginia High Bearcats (3-1). Bearcats hold on to defeat Wise-Central, 41-27

Due to Hurricane Florence, the Virginia High Bearcats contest with the Wise-Central Warriors was moved to Thursday night. However, the Bearcats stayed true to their M.O. so far this season. After scoring two touchdowns in their first five offensive plays and building an early 27-7 lead, the Bearcats had to fight to hold on for a 14-point win over the young but resilient Warriors. The game was not put away by the Bearcats until freshman running back Stevie Thomas scored on a 26-yard touchdown run, with less than two minutes to play.… Read the rest

Bearcats set to host Warriors in non-district clash

For only the second time ever, the Virginia High Bearcats meet the Wise-Central Warriors on the gridiron Thursday night. Last year’s matchup in Wise saw the Bearcats roll to a 31-14 victory. This year’s contest features two very different teams. The Warriors are led by former Virginia Tech Hokie football standout, head coach Luke Owens. Bearcats speared by Vikings in V-T game, 41-21

Expectations for this game by most fans in the region, were for the undermanned Bearcats to go into the Stone Castle and get roughed up by the 5A Vikings. This game did not meet those expectations. In an extremely physical game, the 2A Bearcats fought, scratched and clawed with the bigger Tennessee High squad before finally running out of gas late in the 4th quarter. With one of the best teams that Tennessee High has produced in recent memory, the Vkings were able to make some key plays late.… Read the rest
