The Tazewell Bulldogs are coming off a “Back Of The Dragon Bowl” win vs. the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes. It was J’me Harris’ squad’s fifth win of the season – with others coming against Virginia High, Mount View, Princeton & Honaker.

Against the Hurricanes scored early, often & with ease. The Bulldogs were led by junior quarterback Gavin Nunley and junior receiver Josiah Jordan. Nunley had his best passing performance of the season, completing 7 of 10 throws for 164 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing 21 times for 120 yards. Jordan showed off his playmaking abilities catching four passes for 144 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing eight times for 163 yards and two additional scores. Sophomore Jared Mullins once again played a big role for the Bulldogs, leading the secondary from his defensive back position and spelling Nunley at quarterback. Mullins accounted for two second half touchdowns, as he threw a touchdown pass to Jordan and also intercepted a pass for a defensive score. Cade Myers and Cassius Harris each found paydirt once, to round out the Bulldogs’ scoring.

Tazewell finished the night with 355 rushing yards and 205 passing.

Tazewell’s defense will be led by their senior linebacking duo of Cameron Taylor & Cade Myers. Jayden Taylor & Jacob Witt will be tasked will containing the Grundy outside rushing attack, while Mullins and Shuyler Lawson will be counted upon in the Bulldogs’ defensive backfield.

Sure-footed Tanner Wimmer will once again handle the kicking duties.

Grundy:

Grundy is coming off a disappointing loss to the Chilhowie Warriors, 42-6.

Fourth year head coach Craig Plymal’s team started out hot this season winning their first four games, but has unfortunately been the losers of the most recent four.

If you’ve followed the Golden Wave this season then you’ve surely heard about their freshman sensation, Ian Scammell.

Scammell, a CoalfieldSports.com Player of the Week recepient, has shined this season. Scammell has already rushed for over 1,000 yards for the season.

Helping Scammell in the backfield is quarterback Austin Vance. Vance’s favorite target on the season has been Jake McCoy. In the Golden Wave’s contest vs. J.I. Burton the two connected for five completions, 65 yards & a touchdown.

Grundy’s defense performed well in their four wins, holding their opponents to an average of only 15 points scored.

This will be 73rd meeting between these former Southwest District rivals, with the Bulldogs leading the series 39-31-2.
