Spartans blank Titans

Eastside played possibly their best defensive game of the year last Friday night as they went on the road and shutout the Twin Springs Titans, 20-0. Three players totaled double digit tackles and the Spartans held the Titans to only 97 yards of offense. The Spartans done all of their damage in the first half as they led 20-0 at halftime. Bryson Sheppard scored a pair of short yardage touchdowns in the second quarter to put the game away for Eastside. Sheppard also added 10 tackles on the night to go along with his 2 touchdowns runs. Grayson Whited ran for 92 yards and a touchdown while Will Stansberry threw for 125 yards and also came away with an interception off of Twin Springs quarterback Mason Elliott. Evan Bellamy continues to shine on the defensive side of the ball as he tallied 13 tackles while Brayden Mullins was credited with 11 tackles on the night.

The Titans struggled to move the football on the ground and through the air as they averaged less than two yards per carry and finished the night with only 64 yards rushing. Quarterback Mason Elliott only completed 2 passes on 15 attempts for 33 yards while throwing an interception. Eastside forced the Titans in to two turnovers while Twin Springs failed to take advantage of 13 Eastside penalties. Eastside ran for 171 yards and threw for 125 and didn’t commit and turnovers in the game. The Titans have dropped two in a row to fall to 4-4 overall and 0-3 inside the Cumberland. They head in to a much needed bye week to prepare for the Thomas Walker Pioneers (6-1, 2-0) on November 1st in Ewing. Eastside, who has now won 3 out of 4, improved to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in Cumberland play. They head in to a huge showdown with Thomas Walker this Friday at Carl McConnell Stadium in Coeburn.
